Birdies is easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Bangkok, period. It’s tucked away upstairs on Sukhumvit, and from the moment you walk in, you can tell this place was built by people who care about the details. The lighting is warm, the space feels intimate without being cramped, and the energy in the room hits that perfect middle ground between relaxed and refined. It doesn’t feel pretentious, but it absolutely feels special. The service is sharp and confident, but friendly. Every person on the floor knows the food, the drinks, and even the reasoning behind the pairings. You don’t feel hovered over, but you never wait for anything. They anticipate what you need before you realize you need it. That balance is rare anywhere, let alone in Bangkok’s dining scene. Now, the food. The Parker House rolls with chicken butter deserve a paragraph of their own. They’re soft, rich, and addictive, and honestly, I could have eaten a dozen. Then came the taramasalata with ikura and prawn shell powder salty, creamy, crunchy, just ridiculously good. The charred cabbage wedge with the Vegemite-tahini sauce sounds strange until you try it. It’s one of those flavor combinations that shouldn’t work but absolutely does. But the fried chicken is the real star here. It’s brined, crisp, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. You can pick your sauce the Alabama white and Carolina gold were my favorites and each one adds a different personality to the dish. It’s the kind of food that makes you stop talking for a minute just to appreciate what’s happening on your plate. The sides hit just as hard: the cornbread with maple butter and the mashed potatoes with duck heart gravy are dangerously good. Then dessert the burnt white chocolate ice cream with hot fudge and candied pecans honestly one of the best finishes to a meal I’ve had in...
Read moreHad a fantastic experience at BIRDIES. We were unsure where to eat on a Friday night and decided to pop over to BIRDIES for some fried chicken after seeing it on Instagram a few times.
First impression, the service is unmatched. Better than some Michelin star restaurants we’ve been to here in Bangkok. The hostess greeted us and had a nice conversation with us. The serving staff was very attentive and pleasant. Initiating plate and utensil changes once they got dirty (rare to see in Bangkok). The staff was always around to help and fill up the glasses with water and clean the table and maintain enough room on the table for all the plates. 10/10.
Now on to the food….we were really impressed with the quality of the fried chicken. Dare to say this is the best take on fried chicken we’ve seen in Bangkok and we’ve tried a lot of it. The tenders were juicy with just enough breading that maintained its crispiness and crunch. The flavours were full and tasteful without overpowering the flavour of the chicken.
The spicy tenders were the highlight paired with Ranch dressing and Mac and Cheese. We also got a Burrata salad starter which was nice and hot with chilli oil.
Lastly the atmosphere. It gives a feel of an upscale speakeasy bar without feeling too pretentious or intimidating. The interior is very tasteful and there is enough space for it not to feel cramped once the place fills up.
Overall we had a great experience and I’m definitely coming again and again for that fried chicken. And don’t let the prices scare you! The...
Read moreMy husband and I are from the southern United States, Alabama and Mississippi respectively. I come from a long line of great southern cooks and we know what southern food is supposed to taste like. Although I was excited when I saw Birdies menu…they had all of my favorites, still I was somewhat skeptical. We started with the Burrata and was blown away! Then followed with the (more traditional) spicy chicken tenders complete with Alabama white sauce (my husband’s favorite), their Mac and lots of cheese, cornbread and smoked duck collard greens. My taste buds were in heaven! It immediately made me reminisce of after Church Sunday dinners at my Grand Mother’s as a child and cooking a “fried chicken dinner” for my own kids. Everything was spot on. The Mac and cheese was so moist and so flavorful and yes cheesy. The twist on the collard greens was excellent. Any true southerner knows cornbread isn’t supposed to be sweet like cake but savory to complement the side dishes…the Chef absolutely nailed it! There was maple syrup and the most delicious maple butter that can cure your sweet tooth if desired. The atmosphere is hip and the staff most welcoming and friendly having elevated Southern food that would make my Mama proud! Thank you for a truly...
