Swirl Thonglor – Great Wine, Great Food, Cramped Space
I’ve visited Swirl twice after a friend’s strong recommendation. The food is delicious, and they have a solid wine selection with staff available to recommend pairings. However, the wine suggestions can vary a lot depending on who serves you — some recommend excellent bottles at reasonable prices, while others push only high-end options.
The downside is the space: the restaurant is very small, with limited and uncomfortable seating. On both visits (with 4 and 5 people), we were seated near the front door, where constant traffic from staff and guests made the experience feel cramped and disruptive. The high stools and tight layout make it hard to relax and truly enjoy a full dinner.
Staff are few and often overwhelmed. Service can be slow, and when asking for assistance, their body language sometimes feels defensive or unfriendly — not quite matching the cozy, social vibe the restaurant seems to aim for.
Overall, the food and wine are excellent, and it’s a nice place for tasting or casual wine nights. But for a proper dinner, the space and service can be a...
Read moreBeen here a couple of times now: definitely can say its a wine bar that has delicious food(the food exceeds bar food). The place is decorated like a cellar with a few tables (super cozy and intimate, very simple). I like it here, not overly loud and not too crowded (perfect for a weekday dinner and drinks with close friends).
The food is japanese italian fusion. Taste throughout the menu isnt strong flavors but easy delicious palette. The food isn’t as heavy as traditional italian food so its perfect with wines. The menu is quite big for a wine bar ranging from small bites to pastas to main dishes! Everything was cooked well (above bar grade for suree💕 Even the risotto was not soggy/soft). The cooking on the beef was pretty on point as well.👍🏻 I really enjoyed their bites (esp. the chicken liver pate on crispy rice paper), super light and easy one bite starters! Their braised pork cheeks were so soft the meat fell apart without needing to chew😍. Overall, good food with great wine prices with a wide selection of non-nat and...
Read moreWe do like this place, but they’ve adopted a reservation only policy. We arrived at 5:30pm in the rain to a 90% empty restaurant. Without even asking about our situation, staff turned us away saying they were fully booked.
First, we were planning to have a quick bottle and avoid the rain and then leave (1-1.5 hours at best).
Second, no other customers were likely to arrive at this time given that it was raining, people are all stuck in traffic, and locals are notorious for being late or simply not showing up.
Third, this culture of reserving 100% of the seating for people that may or may not come (especially in Thailand) is ridiculous and shows a misunderstanding of real service standards. Most reasonable restaurants would ask about our intended length of stay and accommodate multiple seatings each evening.
We are actually fans, but this kind of unaccommodating and unreasonable service from staff is not good service and as a result we will likely not return as we have no interest in this lazy...
