Ebisu Shoten Izakaya, charged me with 3% on top of my bill for using my credit card. What a pity. Tucked into Bangkok’s upscale Phrom Phong neighborhood, has built a reputation as a lively spot for Japanese pub-style dining. The ambiance nails the izakaya vibe with its rustic wooden interiors, hanging lanterns, and an open kitchen that lets you watch chefs grill yakitori over glowing charcoal. The menu is a solid mix of classics—think crispy karaage, tender skewers, sashimi platters, and hearty ramen—all flavorful and generously portioned. That said, the experience hinges heavily on when you visit.
Atmosphere & Crowds. The place buzzes with energy, especially after 7 PM when it becomes packed with groups, couples, and solo diners. While the tight seating adds to the authenticity, it also means noise levels soar during peak hours. Conversations compete with clattering plates and staff shouting orders, which might overwhelm those seeking a relaxed meal. Service Challenges Here’s the catch: service during busy periods (weekends, 7–9:30 PM) can test your patience. Staff members hustle, but they’re visibly stretched thin. On a recent Saturday visit, another orders got mixed up twice. The servers didn't apologized. The delays and errors dampened the mood.
When dishes do arrive, they’re worth the hype. The fish melts in your mouth, and the tsukune (chicken meatballs) are juicy with a perfect char. Verdict Ebisu Shoten shines as a culinary gem, but peak-hour service inconsistencies hold it back. Go early or on weekdays to enjoy the food without the frenzy. If you’re braving a weekend, pack patience and maybe a snack—while waiting. Despite the hiccups, the quality of dishes makes it a spot worth trying… just time your...
Read moreVisited this branch on Tuesday, 22nd July 2025 in the evening (around 5:40 PM). We were seated at table 4. Everything went well for the first and second rounds of our order.
The problem started with the third round. We ordered just one dish — grilled fish fin — from a waitress with short hair wearing an orange T-shirt. She confirmed the order with a “Yes.”
We waited nearly 30 minutes for this dish. Please note: the restaurant was not busy.
We followed up with another waitress, this one wearing a light blue T-shirt. She also confirmed the order and said she would check on it. We waited another 5–10 minutes. Still, nothing happened — no dish, no explanation, no update from anyone.
Eventually, we gave up and asked for the bill. Surprisingly, the bill arrived very quickly.
Then, the same waitress in the light blue T-shirt came to us and asked, “Who did you place the order with?” Seriously? We told her exactly who took the order.
We had been waiting almost 30 minutes, even followed up, and no one informed us of any issue. But when we asked for the bill, suddenly you came to ask about our order? Honestly, the service was disappointing.
We still paid the bill, including the 10% service charge and 7% VAT. To be fair, we didn’t want to pay the service charge — but the kitchen staff did nothing wrong.
We hope you take this feedback seriously and work to improve your service. Please train your staff to be more attentive and...
Read moreReally disappointing. A lot of people recommended this but it was super disappointing. The food is not good, the fried sticks are almost mediocre enough to call "bad". The sushi is alright, but just cheap stuff you can get a million other places for half the price. Bad fish, way too much mayonnaise, just ehh...
The decorations inside were really basic. Now, I am not looking for anything fancy, decorations are not something I'd normally comment on. I love good food in basic surroundings. But this was pathetic. The "design" is just plywood stapled to the wall. It probably cost 5000 baht to decorate this place with the crates the kitchen appliances came boxed in. Again, I wouldn't mind if the price reflected the quality, but 4 of us walked away paying 4500baht and only 2 of us drank.
The alcohol wasn't overpriced, but they brought us this glass of wine that tasted like old socks. It must have turned, it was inedible but they wouldn't take it back. Again... I wouldn't mind if the service reflected the price, but it's pretty expensive for poor service, food, and environment.
If you're looking for a lively place to drink Asahi, this is an OK spot. But do NOT come here thinking you're going to have dinner, it's ridiculously overpriced for...
