Aside from the green curry, which might still have been good (we ate an amazing green curry in the afternoon), every dish was fantastic. Fantastic. We devoured so much that the long walk home was necessary to help everything settle. The room itself is quite large with many tables that are close, but not crammed together. We were greeted at the door with attentive service throughout. The menu is extensive with a photo and explanation of every dish in English and Thai. We settled for grilled chicken and pork neck for appetizers, with beef salad, green papaya salad, chicken massaman, and green curry. Every single bite was exquisite, except the green curry. Maybe the Bangkok style requires sweetness in the curry and Pad Thai, but I find it off putting. However, everything else was a lesson in balance. It was difficult to name one dish that stood out from the rest as everything from the salad to the pork neck sauce was exceptional. For me, the sour, salty, spicy, sweet salad was exactly what I hoped for, it was crunchy, tangy, spicy, large enough to share, and dripping with sauce. The massaman was a favourite for the others, but not exactly to my style. That didn't make it bad, just not what I was expecting. The beef salad, OMG, was firm, moist, crunchy, tangy - amazing. It is unfortunate that I can only give 3 stars for this restaurant because the staff was nice and there is nothing wrong with the restaurant.
Reason for the 3 stars is purely based on taste, since I was looking forward to an authentic Thai experience but this restaurant is not.. I felt the flavor lacking, catered to the tourist palette, the dishes we ordered generally lacked the punch and burst of flavors you'd expect from a Thai dish.
Red curry soup: decent, but lacks flavor and any kind of Thai spice, spicyness. It was sweet and coconuty but that's about it. Pad see ew: this was our favorite, it was great Crispy seafood salad: calling this a salad is a bit deceptive, everything was fried (it even had some long empty fried dough), fried calamari just tasted like batter, there were few strands of onion, tomato and carrots, but not enough to call it a salad.. Fried chicken with lemon sauce: I would believe it if this dish was served in a western restaurant. There was nothing Thai about this dish đ and the lemon sauce was citrus mayo.
Yeah so long story short, I don't think this is for someone looking for authentic Thai food, but if you're a tourist looking for some "spicy" food to ease in, then totally give it a try. Menus have pictures and...
