OHHH.. THAT WOK. Made popular by youtube vlogger mark weins, this place is like a best-selling book that has been published in many languages. So much positive has been said about the food that no further wax lyrical is needed. They were closed during my first two attempts(#^%*) but third time was the charm. Tried as many as I could(see images) and they were good eating. Understandably, their thai holy basil rice is the most ordered since that was what catapulted this place into youtube fame.. but personally I say try the spicy kee mao stir-fried noodles. That one surprised me. It helps if you can order in some very basic thai, otherwise you may need to emphasize your choice/s because the older folks there CAN get your order wrong. Much safer if the young lady is around to take orders ;). The bossman probably replaces his wok often.. but man it sure continues to produce some mean flavors. Be sure to save some room in your tummy for this place if you’re in the vicinity. See you again ;).

I found this restaurant thanks to Mark Wiens, Thai food expert. This is an authentic lowkey Thai restaurant and the Masterchef has been there for decades. The dish to order is definitely 'Pad Kra Pao', a classic in the Thai cuisine: stir-fried minced pork with holy basil and some condiments to spice it up. This is traditionally a spicy dish but you can ask to down it a bit by saying 'Mai Phet' (not too spicy). It's a delicious dish and prepared to order, so you can go and watch the chef prepare it in a wok. There are other choices as well: the flat noodle dishes are also highly recommendable. The menu is also in English. The interior is rather basic and seating is mostly outside, but if you want to have an authentic Thai food experience, eating with the locals, this is it.

Saved this place for almost 2 years now. Didn't have the opportunity to try this place on my last 2 trips to Bangkok. The hotel I happen to stay for this trip is actually very near to this place. I decided to go check this out since it was the last day in Bangkok. I was there around late 11am and there wasn't any crowd. The elderly cook and the service staff were very friendly. The menu has both English and Chinese, so it was easy to understand. Ordered the basil chicken rice and a bottle of Pepsi. Food didn't take long to be ready. Food didn't disappoint as expected. Food was well seasoned and can taste wok hei. In total, I paid 85baht for my meal. Overall, I would definitely highly recommend if you are in the asok area.

This was in March 2019 Came here on Mark Wien's recommendation and I was not disappointed. We came here on a Monday just after 12:15pm, the restaurant was 90% full and we waited 5 mins to get a seat. The food arrived 15mins later. We ordered no spicy but the food was still quite spicy. It was lunch time and the chef probably didn't want to cook another 2 plates of food just for people that can't eat chili. Although it was spicy it was amazing!! definitely one of the best basil pork rice I ever had. The rice was a bit cold when I ate it but the pork and basil made me forget the cold rice. A day later I had the same dish in a restaurant called 'have a zeed' and it was so bad compare this this. I will definitely come back when it is less busy and order two plates for myself.

This was in Nov 2019 Went there again yesterday in the morning soon after it was opened. Restaurant wasn't packed but the lady that took the order wasn't in the best of moods and ignored serveral times of my attempt to order. I had my phone out with Mark's video and the name of dish out ready to order. She kept ignoring me and told me to sit. So I sat down and waited, a minute later she came by to drop off the menu and ignored my attempt to order once again as I was showing her my phone with the name of the dish. Finally after around 5-7 mins of getting into the restaurant, I made my order. Not spicy this time. This dish was good but a bit sweet if it wasn't spicy. So I ordered another plate and asked for a little spicy. It was muh better.the rice was definitely hotter this time and the basil pork mixture was slightly wetter than last time. Can't complain. This spiciness this time was definitely more bearable than my last attempt. I will definitely go back again and beware, go when it is less busy and prepared to be ignored for awhile before...

Awful dining experience. Came here after watching Mark Wiens Top 5 Bangkok video. We tried the other flaming beef hot pot restaurant the day before and had a great time. The lady at Ung Jia Huad was disorganized and frequently mixed up orders or asked around for who ordered what. She also was rude to non-Thai speakers. I approached her and asked her questions or asked to order for 10 minutes and she just ignored me as if I didn’t exist while other people came in and talked to her. She eventually handed me a menu and I waited another 10 minutes before she takes my order. Then I sit down and think finally the food will come eventually. But another 10 minutes goes by and she hands a notepad to me to write down my own order again... we kept on waiting. It also seemed like she prioritized other people’s orders before ours, especially grab drivers. Eventually I went to check on our food and she sees me after a bit and repeats my order to me. I see many plates of cooked food on the table. Shortly after we got our food so it seemed like she might’ve forgotten. We ordered the stir fry and the noodles. Our stir fry was definitely sitting there for a while since it was kind of cold, so it wasn’t even that good. The noodles were piping hot and pretty good. Overall food was decent, could’ve been better if it was all still hot. But terrible dining experience. And I tried to pay her and she still ignored me and two other people came after me and paid her before I finally lost my patience and had to block her to get her attention.

Not even exaggerating, we ate for 5 minutes since we were starving and the portions aren’t huge. And we were there for...
