Heard a few people complaint about this for not having as much selections as it should have for a price, especially from the local Thai consumers. And I get where they came from, this restaurant can be less than perfect if you primarily focus on the Thai's favourite like Japanese or seafood (the giant crab legs are especially bad, taste very 'de-froated" bland)
But for me personally, this restaurant couldn't be more perfect. I don't care too much about the seafood or Japanese (even then they are no slouch just relatively fewer selections), I went to a hotel buffet for cheese, cold cut and meat and they went above and beyond for those. Paid 1400 THB for a Sunday brunch, couldn't be more happy with the deal.
The cold cut on offer are all Hamon Iberico, and not just any Hamon Iberico but the expensive oak-fed variant (de Bellota.) The smoked fishes has more than just the boring salmons, but smoked swordfishes, smoked tunas, and smoked salmon marinated in beetroot along with normal smoked salmons (smoked fishes are my weakspot if you couldn't tell.)
The chees selection are massive. More than I've ever seen in any hotel buffet that isn't a dedicated cheese buffet. You even have some of the more exotic Tete de Moine with its petal shape, but also plenty more of Gonzola or even Buratta for the less adventurous type. The one from the local cheese farmer that got featured on the seperated displays are terrible though. Taste like chalks, dry and bland. I've made a mistake of trying every variants of those (come with garlic flavour, truffle flavour etc.), don't repeat it.
If you aren't either a fan of cheese or smoked and cold cut, the beef offerings here are also excellent. I took beef bourguignon as a precaution, fully expected everything that came out of the roasted beef and roasted session to be terrible (as with many hotels in Thailand) but it's the opposite! The roasted beef here are made out of the entire Tomahawk, might have been the first roasted beef that doesn't taste like a tasteless leather for me. And the other roasted selection is a slow cooked short ribs, they were so flavourful and melt in your mouth. I regretted don't taking any more of them. That was truly excellent.
Because I bought a coupon I can only enter the place after 13:15, so have roughly an hour and a half to eat. They were nearly finished by the time I went for the dessert (having a bit too much fun with cheese and meat and everything.) They were famous for the treats so my expectations were high. And while I wasn't exactly disappointed, the dessert is kind of nothing special for the hotel of this calibre. All of them are good, but nothing in particular stood out or memorable to me.
Solid 4 stars. Would gladly give them full points if this was just me but ultimately they were excelled while underperform in another. I just happened to highly value the areas they excelled and don't care for one that they don't. But your experience may differs.
If you like cheese or beef at all though, you would love this...
Read moreBreakfast at Flow. Do you like pigeon for breakfast?
I visited the property’s Flow restaurant for breakfast during a recent overnight hotel stay. For the most part the breakfast was a pleasing & pleasant dining experience—even during these cautionary Covid pandemic times. The buffet menu was varied enough to be interesting & the food offerings seemed carefully prepared & were regularly replenished. Also the guests generally were well behaved in observing the Covid protocols.
The restaurant’s outside terrace should be a lovely setting to enjoy a leisurely breakfast. What spoiled the experience & instead turned it into a disgusting & annoying spectacle was the infestation of pigeons. This wasn’t just a stray pigeon or two, which might be more tolerable & excusable, but rather a half dozen or more at a time.
IMO & from my observation a big reason these birds overrun the dining area (parts of it) is the wait staff were not promptly clearing vacated tables of dirty dishes. Indeed numerous tables surrounding mine (including my table) remained uncleared for 15 minutes or more. As an aside, equally poor is that this inattention by staff was consistent with the almost non-existent beverage service (e.g., tea or coffee refills), aside from an initial beverage order taken when being seated.
What was surprising was that certain staff seemed oblivious that these pigeons might not make for an agreeable or healthy situation for (most?) guests—despite their walking past empty-handed & directly glancing at the vacated tables, they didn’t bother to clear them, either then or soon thereafter. In my mind this is a very poor service standard & possibly indicates insufficient staffing, subpar training or supervision, or otherwise weak service attitudes on the part of dining area staff.
The pigeons certainly detracted from the otherwise pleasant & hygienic dining venue. I’d hope that Flow dining area service staff & management would be able to improve in this area. For guests considering a outside dining table at Flow, do note that you might compromise & share the space with the...
Read moreWe had Sunday Brunch at Flow for my husband’s pre birthday on July 21st 2024. The food tastes very good. The live music was nice. The manager of the restaurant is polite, a nice guy, we like him. However the service from the waitresses was substandard and highly unprofessional. First of all, the waitresses speak little English and refuse to repeat/confirm the order with us to make sure the order was correct. I ordered a coke which never came. Secondly, the speed that the waitress talk to us was super fast. My husband who is from the US and I’m from Canada both had hard time to understand exactly what are the options available for the drinks. And then later the waitress handed over 2 glasses of “Welcome Drinks”to us, And said “one from Hungry Hub; one from us”. We were like what? could you explain a little bit more what kind of drinks they are ? and does it come with the booking of hungry hub? and lastly at the end no one observes that we are already on the last course dessert; no one comes to ask if we would like a coffee or tea. Two girls (staff) stood in front of the coffee machine chitchating with their back facing us. My husband tried to get their attention but failed, he wanted to make a point so he walked to the coffee and attempted to make a coffee himself. Then the staff realized they needed to do something (such as making a coffee for their customers). All in all, this is the worse experience of service I have had of all the 5 star hotel restaurants in Bangkok. We don’t feel like we are being respected. We felt like they just want us to quickly eat and leave. The term “service minded” I didn’t see it at all. I paid 1700฿ per head for the Sunday Brunch. Next time I probably can find another restaurant in Bangkok with the same price but...
