Great food (tapas and grilled dishes) in Kohtao with beachfront view of Sairee! 2 of us had: - Miso Cauliflower (160 THB) - Salt & Pepper Squid (180 THB) - Here for the Dips (180 THB) - 2 glasses of fresh juice (100 THB/glass) 😋 Taste, flavour, texture, ingredients, presentation : All superb! Lots of tapas and small dishes selection to order from and share with friends 👍 🗣️ Service : Communication with the wait staff was honestly challenging (in which the first page of the menu clearly mentions about this, and kindly asks all customers to have some patience). Taking that into account, I still think the "service" itself was sub-par. When asking for the bill (with hand signals too), the staff nodded with acknowledgement but then didn't get back to us. Or, when asking for the menu, I said I wanted to see the name of our dish again. Staff brings us a menu, and about 5-10 mins later, another staff comes up and says the other guy didn't understand what I said. Even as a fluent Thai & English speaker (and also having had a lot of experience interacting with Burmese staff) it was quite a challenging experience. However, on my 2nd visit, I met a different staff who was better in communications and service! Anyhow, I think language barrier is one thing, and service is another. With the price point and positioning of the venue, service at Sandbar can be improved (for 'some' staff). 🙂 All in all, Sandbar is still worth a visit! And I'll go back for their great dishes.

The restaurant is very beautifully decorated, the dishes are beautifully served, the staff is friendly. But - the dishes themselves did not live up to expectations. We grabbed a plate of seafood. The tuna, langoustines and vegetables were fresh, but some of the seafood was deep-fried. The juices were not freshly squeezed. We asked the waiter if the pineapple juice on the menu was fresh and were told no. The beer was from a can. We had something to compare it with. So I give 4 points for the food. And 5 stars to atmosphere and service. Replace the deep-fried squid and crab with freshly cooked ones and add fresh juices. And you will become an exceptional place.

Avnjöts med öl från deras breda ölsortiment samt lite mer vin😇 Varmrätt: 5 kryddors oxkind med wasabi potatismos, ett långkok som var mört och fint. Porkbelly med sötpotatis, perfekt friterad svål och ett kött som föll isär. Och jajjemen....mer vin👍 Efterrätt: Vid det här laget började allt vin att kicka in så jag vet inte om dessa två finns på menyn men Tomas hade vänligheten att erbjuda en Avokado/choklad mousse (vegansk) Den hade en bra balans och satte pricken över i:et på min middag. Vi fick även en variant på tiramisu som var magisk... Servicen var snabb och trevlig. Uppmärksamma och vänliga. Om man inte vill äta så mycket som vi gjorde så finns det massor av fräscha och innovativa smårätter att beställa. Stället har också en "privat" strand med utmärkt utsikt över solnedgången. Men kom tidigt då det snabbt blir fullt. En bred och prisvär drinklista med nya och klassiska cocktails. Jag måste säga att detta ställe är bland de bästa jag besökt under mina 25år av resor till Thailand. Det är väldigt prisvärt...hela vår nota slutade inte på 9000 baht och inte heller 7000 baht utan den stannade under fantastiska 5000 baht😲😲❤️ Hit åker vi gärna fler gånger🙏

Where do I start with Sandbar? I chose to have my 40th birthday celebrations here after coming across Sandbar online. At that time there weren’t a whole lot of reviews for me to go off but I liked what I had seen on their instagram page and so I made contact with Dain. I knew as soon as Dain responded to me that I had made the right choice choosing Sandbar for my milestone birthday. It was very clear from the get go that hospitality was his thing and him and his team exceeded all of my expectations plus more. When we arrived they had set the restaurant up so beautifully with so many personal touches that I was not expecting. The whole evening ran like clockwork, nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they handled our group of nearly 40 people without raising a sweat! The food from the canapés at the start of the evening, the kids buffet and the entrees, mains and deserts for the adults were 5*. Every one of my guests commented on the quality of the food, the beverages and the level of service provided. Dain is so warm and friendly and I really can’t thank him enough for the evening he put on for my friends, family and I. If you are looking for a venue for a large event as I was or just for a nice dinner while in Koh Tao put Sandbar at the very top of the list. You will not be...

23.02.24: sehr schöne & gemütliche Atmosphäre, wo sich wirklich jeder sofort wohlfühlt.

Die folgenden Punkte sollten als Anregung zu verstehen sein, schlussendlich ist jede Restauranterfahrung sehr subjektiv 😊

FOOD: Ihr habt ein tolles modernes Tapas-/Grillkonzept. Meiner Meinung nach können die Tapas noch etwas feiner & herzhafter abgeschmeckt werden, viele davon sind noch zu süß im Geschmack und erinnern von der Ausführung eher an eine westliche Geschmacksvorstellung im thai/myanmar style. Wenn man eure Tapaskarte liest, erwartet man eher eine etwas herzhaftere Ausführung / westlichere Küchenzubereitung. Ich mache mal ein Beispiel:

"Tiger Prawns - with garlic, chili & lemon"

Ihr serviert eure Prawns in einer eher süßlichen Tamarindensauce ? Die anderen Komponenten werden sozusagen total von der süßlichen Sauce erschlagen und man schmeckt fast nur noch süß. Man hat dann vom lesen des Gerichts eine total andere Vorstellung und der eine oder andere Gast könnte dann enttäuscht werden. Tip: beschreibt das Gericht so, wie es auch vom Gast vermutlich wahrgenommen wird.

"Beef Kofta - spiced beef, greek yoghurt fresh tomato sauce & focaccia bread"

Die beef kofta ist gut mit Gewürzen abgeschmeckt, nur leider fehlt es deutlich an Salz. Somit kommt die kofta sehr fade am westlichen Gaumen an. Tip: besonders in der westlichen Fleischzubereitung sollte man mehr mit Salz arbeiten. Ihr benutzt vermutlich thailändische Dosentomaten oder passierte Tomaten, ich kenne jetzt eure Marke nicht, aber ich weiß das diese Produkte hier in Thailand viel zu süß im Vergleich zu europäischen Dosen-/passierte Tomaten sind. Vielleicht mal eine andere Marke ausprobieren oder ein Tomatenchutney aus frischen Tomaten machen. Focaccia bread - würde nicht focaccia bread in der Karte stehen, würde ich es nicht als solches wahrnehmen. Nehmt auch hier lieber eine passendere Beschreibung für das Brot.

"Chicken Pesto Rigatoni "

Euer Pesto geht definitiv in die richtige Richtung, der ein oder andere Löffel mehr Pesto könnte das Gericht vertragen, somit wirken die Nudeln nicht ganz so trocken. Es fehlt etwas an Salz am Pesto. Tip: Pesto Saucen brauchen unglaublich viel Salz/Parmesan besonders in Verbindung mit Nudeln. (Man kann das Nudelwasser auch stärker mit Salz abschmecken, dann braucht man weniger Salz im Pesto.

Tip: eure Gästedemografie besteht zum großteil aus westlichen Gästen, die einen westlichen Gaumen bzw. eine gewisse Vorstellung der westlichen Küche mitbringen. Versucht mehr mit Salz zu arbeiten, herzhafter und weniger süß, dann werden eure Tapas auch die, die kulinarisch schon viel erlebt haben, vollstens überzeugen.

SERVICE: Ihr habt ein ganz tolles Team - jeder lacht, ist freundlich, motiviert & hat Spaß an der Arbeit. Tip: ihr könnt ruhig 5% Service charge am Ende auf die Rechnung packen(außer ihr habt das scho in eure Preise inkludiert, was noch besser ist ✌). Andere Restaurants auf der Insel mit ähnlichen Konzepten tun dies ebenfalls und ihr seit vom Servicelevel aufjedenfall sehr weit vorne. Ja ihr seit relativ neu, aber traut euch den Schritt zugehen. Orientiert euch da ruhig an der Konkurrenz. Das hält die Zufriedenheit eurer Mitarbeiter hoch - wer möchte nicht am Ende des Tages noch etwas mehr Geld in der Tasche haben🤗 Noch ein kleiner weiterer Tip: der Gast ist auch nach dem Bezahlen noch Gast. Lasst bitte die Getränke noch stehen, wenn sich noch etwas im Glas befindet 😊
