Luckily managed to get seated immediately at Pad Thai Kratong Thong near The Grand Palace because shortly thereafter, the queue got thiiiicck outside. The host (assuming it’s the owner?) is a dreadlocked dude who kept playing a fun bongo and was walking around barefoot just being chill and also wildly entertaining people who were waiting. Place is well-kept and clean and even had a humidity mister outside to cool down the heat. This place has one of the BEST pad thai I have had IML, and even had a special sauce for it that I absolutely can’t make out what it’s made of. Tom yum is alright, quite spicy for med-spice level and is on the sour side, but very aromatic. Serving’s super quick too, which was a major plus. They even offered a decorative metal bowl with ice for you to cool your face down—- which was highly appreciated, because it was HOT AS THE HADES outside you’d feel like you’re getting roasted on a spit in Satan’s butt as flames lick your already seared skin.

Based on glowing reviews, we decided to try Pad Thai Kratong Thong. We arrived right at lunchtime and were greeted by a queue – a testament to its popularity! The restaurant itself has a charming intimacy, with seating for around 40 customers. We opted for their "happy set," the set included a steaming bowl of rice, a fragrant tom yam shrimp soup, a fluffy omelette, and both chicken pad thai and savory fried rice. Each dish was bursting with flavor – the tom yam had the perfect balance of sweet, sour, and spicy, the pad thai had those satisfying chewy noodles, and the fried rice was a flavorful mix of textures. It's safe to say the "happy set" lived up to its name. It was a fantastic way to try a variety of dishes, and everything was absolutely delicious. If you're looking for a cozy restaurant with authentic Thai flavors, Pad Thai Kratong Thong is a must-try!

Firstly, when queued at the restaurant the waitress was snappy and abrasive; really rude, almost seeming as though she has hate for their customers. Secondly, they have a small pet dog that they allow everywhere. When we first arrived, it was on the counter next to the cash register, which hovers over one of the tables; glad we weren't sitting there. Then, it climbed up and laid on the bench seating area, which is very close to the dining tables and your food. Some customers seemed to love it, and were competing with one another for its attention. But it's gross and unsanitary, and the restaurant shouldn't be allowing it to roam around like that. Thirdly, they only accept cash; this isn't why I rate the restaurant low, but their not accepting credit cards is a bit inconvenient, and surprising for a place that primarily caters to tourists. Now, apparently the place is "famous" for its food, and its padthai in particular. The food was pretty good, the presentation nice, and for a touristy area the prices are quite reasonable, but I don't see it being worthy of fame. The dog running around so close to the food and the rude woman simply ruined the experience for me.

For me, how people treat others matters more than the food itself. Unfortunately, Pad Thai Kratong Thong is not a place where everyone is treated equally, especially if you don’t fit a certain skin color. Before I even seated, the staff member taking our order asked where I would like to sit. I chose a window seat, but he seemed uncomfortable with my choice. Instead of accommodating my request, he turned to the white couple next in line and offered them the seat I wanted. Luckily, they were indifferent and agreed to sit elsewhere. But what if they had wanted that seat? It was a clear case of racial discrimination, something that’s surprising to encounter in today’s world, especially when everyone is a paying customer. Sadly, this isn’t the first time I’ve experienced such behavior in Thailand, but this was by far the worst, and it felt intentional. After waiting in line for over 45 minutes, I was hungry and had no choice but to eat there. I won’t comment on the food because I couldn’t enjoy it in light of what had happened. I just filled my stomach and left as quickly as I could.

On our visit to Bangkok we stopped off for some food in this lovely little restaurant. It was tightly packed but cozy and we got lucky with our time because we got seated immediately but noticed an hour later when we walked past again that the line was out the door, so it is clearly a very popular place... And rightly so! The prices are very good, the quality of the food was amazing, so tasty! Was eating with 2 Thai locals who gave it 10/10 for proper authentic Thai food. The staff were all really helpful, patient and friendly. We loved the boss (Saen Saep the adorable dog!) Doing his rounds and keeping an eye on his customers haha! Lovely spot and we will return on our next visit to the city. Thank you so much!

This is the best food place in Bangkok with reasonable prices and a bohemian-like interior. You will find a long queue, but believe me, it is worth trying. It's just the opposite of Wat Pho temple. The mango sticky rice is a must-try. The staff is friendly and well-organized. Boss is friendly and looks like a Thai version of Bob Marley. They provide 2 bowls of ice to tap into our skin to make our bodies refreshing after the hot weather out there. The pad thai and thai curry are delicious. The tom yam had the perfect balance of sweet, sour, and spicy, and the pad thai had those satisfying chewy noodles. The restaurant has a charming atmosphere with seating for around 40 customers.
