Baan Pomphet — Restaurant in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya City Municipality

Pom Phet is located at the confluence of Chao Phraya River and Pa Sak River ( east bank of Khlong ( canal ) Nai Kai ),on the southeastern area of city island, on Uthong Rd., Tambon Pratuchai, Amphoe Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Chang Wat Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. This was a left over fortress ( the other was “ Pratu Kao Plauk Fortress “ or “ ป้อมประตูข้าวเปลือก “ ) of totally sixteen fortresses along the city wall where played major role to protect the city from Burmese ‘s attacking, ended with the unsuccessful business in A.D.1767( B.E. 2310 ).In A.D. 1350 ( B.E. 1893 ), the time of Ayutthaya City ‘s establishment, the fortresses were made of woods, during the reign of King Maha Chakkraphat ( A.D. 1548-1569 or B.E. 2091-2112 ), he realized that it was the time of gunpowder and large guns to dominate the war thus to defend the city wall and fortresses were made of brick and laterite constructed on the wood base, the first conquered ( A.D. 1569 or B.E. 2112 ) by Burmese, during the reign of King Phra Maha Thammaracha ( A.D. 1569-1590, B.E. 2112-2133 ), he was allowed to construct new wall around the city so as to protect city from Cambodia ( in A.D. 1570, east moat was dug with 20 meters of width and 6 meters of depth run along from Maha Chai fortress to meet Kaja village ( Chao Phraya River ‘s left bank on the city ‘s south area ), in A.D. 1580 ( B.E. 2123 ). Pom Phet was constructed of brick and laterite ( Pom Phet fortresses used to be built in circle- shaped under Portuguese ‘s supervises and constructed overlapped in hexagonal-shaped later on under French ‘s supervise ),targeted to inspect for the city ‘s security and unloading goods, all foreign ships could not travel up Chao Phraya River beyond this point without permission. The Pom Phet fortress consist of 16 cannons, 8 portals, 8 merlons of the basement, second floor and tower dominated the fort and countryside, a part of fortress where three bastions nearby built against the line of city wall covering the harbor area. This boutique charmer of a hotel is a welcome break and refreshing addition to this ancient town which was devoid of any kind of fancy accommodations a few years back. A Chic hotel with the right levels of luxury and hospitality. The perfect place to immerse in some serene tranquility by a calm river that flows by next to it!

LOCATION: Just a few minutes away from all the key points of interest and located on the banks of the legendary Chao Phraya river

DINE + DRINK: Lovely bar & bistro with a spectacular terrace setting that comes loaded with million dollar views. A great place for a sundowner as well as a chilled out meal!

ROOM: We stayed in Room 8, so this review is based on that; VIEW: Lovely views of the river from the sit out/balcony attached to the room from one end and of the fortress from the other windows in the room ; SIZE: Spacious enough for 2 adults and simple baggage; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part of putting me to sleep; BATHROOM: Stand-in shower; TOILETRIES: Excellent spa quality cosmetics

FACILITIES: No Gym on site, but they do have a cute little pool with views of the river

SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all our needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and well taken care of. Special shout out to BOY at the restaurant who took care of us during dinner as well as Breakfast and attended to all special dietary needs
