A Sweet Surprise at Jaewan – Michelin-Listed & Blackpink-Approved
We stumbled upon Jaewan (เจ้ วรรณ) while finishing up dinner at the ever-popular Longleng Noodles nearby. The dessert stall was buzzing with activity and just as packed—clearly a local favourite—so we decided to end our evening on a sweet note.
To our surprise, Jaewan is no ordinary dessert stall. It’s a Michelin Guide-listed gem, and it even gained viral attention when Blackpink’s Lisa visited—not that we needed more reason to try it!
What stood out immediately was the extensive menu, featuring both traditional Thai-Chinese desserts and modern variations tailored to the younger crowd. From soy-based creations to herbal jellies and syrupy bean mixes, the variety was impressive and a bit overwhelming—in the best way possible.
We settled on two bowls: ✨ Cold Soy Milk with Bua Loy & Ginkgo Seeds – This was a comforting, mildly sweet dessert featuring soft sesame glutinous rice balls and ginkgo nuts in a chilled soy milk base. It felt nutritious yet indulgent, and was not overly sweet—perfect for those who enjoy a more subtle treat. ✨ Iced Assorted Beans in Syrup – A classic mix of ginkgo nuts, barley, red kidney beans, and candied red dates. This one leaned on the sweeter side, but was still refreshing, especially with the shaved ice and syrup.
The setting is simple and fuss-free, with a true local charm. Though not air-conditioned, the quality and authenticity of the desserts more than make up for it.
All in all, Jaewan is well worth the visit—whether you’re winding down from dinner or hunting for a unique dessert spot in Bangkok. We’ll definitely be back to try more of their sweet creations...
Read moreI had the Bua Loy in fresh milk with pomegranate seeds, Sarim, Lod Chong, and ice cream. For just 150 THB, it was beautifully presented and absolutely indulgent. The base was refreshing evaporated milk, which added a smooth and creamy texture, and it was complemented perfectly by the chewy bua loy (glutenous rice balls) filled with black sesame, refreshing pomegranate seeds (red ruby), and vibrant pandan noodles (lod chong). The sarim added a delicate touch, and the coconut ice cream provided a delightful burst of flavor, making the dish even more special.
The portion size is very generous—perfect for sharing between two people, making it a great option for those who enjoy sharing desserts.
One feature I really appreciated was that the dish wasn’t overly sweet. Sugar was provided on the table, allowing customers to adjust the sweetness to their preference—a thoughtful touch that makes this dessert appealing to a wider audience.
That said, ordering was a bit of a challenge since the menu names were only in Thai, with no English translations or numerical identifiers (e.g., “Item 3”). I had to go to the staff and point at the menu to place my order. Fortunately, the staff was very friendly and helpful, ensuring I got exactly what I wanted.
Despite this minor hiccup, the dessert and overall experience were fantastic. If you’re looking for a unique, refreshing, and shareable Thai dessert, Jae Wan เจ้วรรณ is absolutely...
Read moreVisited the place few days ago, there was a long line for queue. The line actually moved very fast. We were a group of 10 people.
Desserts was good, it wasn’t overly sweet and you could adjust the sweetness. It’s definitely good on a hot day for sure.
My only negative feedback is the toilet. It was a very long queue when I needed to use it and then that’s when I noticed the toilet is open air and no partition was made to separate it from the eating area. Meaning, you can smell people’s pee while eating inside half of the restaurant. The fan is blowing into the toilet, so imagine when someone didn’t poop or pee properly. The half of the restaurant basically smells like urine. Initially I thought it was the smell of the restaurant. That was my experience, I’m calling this out because no one from my group noticed it since we are Infront of the restaurant but I can tell customers sitting next to the...
