During a layover at Don Muang Airport last month, my family and I, hungry and in need of a quick meal, stumbled upon Piri Piri Flaming Chicken. Having seen "piri piri" on the menu, I was reminded of the familiar flavors of Portuguese BBQ, a cuisine I've often enjoyed during my time in the UK. Naturally, I expected a similar, flavorful experience. Unfortunately, what we encountered could not have been further from that expectation.
From the moment we approached the counter, it was clear that this would not be an enjoyable dining experience. The establishment's cleanliness left much to be desired. The tables were grimy, and the overall atmosphere felt neglected. Still, we proceeded to order, hoping that the food might redeem the environment. We couldn’t have been more wrong.
The chicken, which should have been the star of the meal, was shockingly subpar. The meat had an unpleasant odor, hinting that it may have been far from fresh, and it was so overcooked that it was almost inedible. Dry, tough, and flavorless, it lacked any of the juicy, smoky qualities one would associate with a proper piri piri dish. It was a struggle to get through even a few bites.
As if the lackluster food wasn’t enough, the service was equally disappointing. The staff member who attended to us seemed utterly disinterested in providing even a basic level of hospitality. Instead of verbal communication, he gestured with his hands for most interactions, giving the impression that engaging with customers was an inconvenience. To clarify, this individual did not appear to have any impairments that prevented him from speaking—he simply didn’t seem to care.
Overall, our experience at Piri Piri Flaming Chicken was one to forget. If you ever find yourself at Don Muang Airport, I would strongly advise seeking out other dining options. Save yourself the disappointment.
Read moreNot much food choices at DMK Bangkok airport and most of the food here are pretty pricy compared to food in Bangkok city. Settled for Piri piri chicken (rather than BK) because it provided a proper place to sit and eat and you can get a beer here. Between the grilled chicken and the chicken burger, I pick the burger. The chicken fillet for the burger is tender and tasty and it comes with a decent amount of vegetables. The grilled chicken is tasty but too dry. The unique thing here is that they provide you with 5 different types of chilli sauce. Service is a little slow though but the people were friendly. Total for half grilled chicken with fries, a chicken burger with fries and a can of beer...
