Mistakes, Untruths & Very Salty I suspect the waitress lied to me as I am a foreigner. I ordered baby half chicken and specifically asked the waitress if the grilled baby carrots would be partly black from the grill, as in which case I wouldn’t order this dish unless they could be boiled (the menu pic shows clean orange carrots) - the waitress went to ask the chef and came back and said she had told the chef already and no problem the carrots would not be black. I ordered and when it came they were pretty much entirely dirty and black, and I suspect they’d been glazed in cooking oil which made the dirt run. The waitress pretended that there was nothing wrong with them, looking up and down at them and then asked her colleague to help who might have been the supervisor. I relayed if the carrots could be boiled as originally asked for but with a lot of dithering around it seemed obvious this wasn’t possible, so I then asked for a salad without dressing instead ( I regret this and should have simply cancelled the dish) - the salad came drenched with a sweet dressing and the lady quickly turned away so as to avoid me - it was a very small side salad consisting almost entirely of wilting and yellowing aged lettuce stalk and I don’t know if any of the black spots and lines were because it was unwashed or not, or part of the dressing (a similar thing happened to me at New Year when I came here - the salad then came with a dressing after I asked to separate it and the waitress at that time refused to change it as she said it was all pre-made at a central kitchen, however, the manager came along and said she could change the salad as that wasn’t all pre-made and she then separated the dressing).
The four pieces of roast potato seemed to be reheated, as one was still cold and they all had a bruised appearance.
The chicken although relatively juicy (hopefully with its own fat), was very, very, salty. This is why I’ve come back on to edit this review and downgrade it to 1* from 2*. I am at home now having drank my twelfth mug of waster since arriving back. The pastas are also very salty.
I also asked if the chicken was oven reheated or microwaved - the said the oven as they don’t use the microwave. However. The chicken was abnormally hot and I had to let it cool for a few minutes. I suspect this was also a lie.
I believe that the waitress did not confirm with the chef about the carrots as what chef on the world would then serve blackened carrots after specifically being asked not to? I think she said whatever she wanted because I am a foreigner and she thinks I have bo rights. I spoke English on this occasion as their English was good but I can speak almost fluent Thai as I’ve lived here for more than 25 years. They did not misunderstand what I requested.
Food and service are poor in my opinion. Prices have risen by 10-15% since New Year only three months and are now over priced relative to the quality in my view. They add service charge and VAT. so the one dish (above) without drinks was 420 baht. Given the hassle and nastiness experienced today, obviously I wouldn’t go...
Read moreUpdated 07/31/24 - so good! Have to share - the Tuscan scallops with fresh house made fettuccini is a must - love the flavors and how perfectly both the scallop was seared (not overcooked/rubbery) & pasta al dente (not too soft)! I’m loving this even more than the vongole pasta!
Update July 2024 - staff still nice, helpful & friendly, but the menu & cooking are improved! Love the new menu items - the shrimp pomelo salad is a great addition & the vongole pasta (less black pepper please, too much in mine, almost can’t taste other flavors), the smoke salmon pasta was delicious. Look forward to coming back - now 4* overall experience ;)
Initial review from +1 years ago- 4-5 stars for staff and set up - nice settinng, could be for date night or special occasion, but if you come casual, you might feel under dressed or it’s a little stuffy.
3-4 stars for food. Dishes are hit and miss. The tuna salad was great, nice seasoning on the tuna and dressing tasty, BUT the tuna was sliced ridiculously thin, you could barely taste it or feel much texture of the meat in your mouth. I’m not sure I would have it again given how skimpy they are with super thin slices of tuna.
The pasta putanesca is delicious - nice falvors of capers and olives, along with what seems to be feta cheese. However, I’m used to putanesca being made with tomato sauce. The only ‘tomato’ you get here are what appears to be dried tomatoes. In addition, it’s bizarre that the chef puts a lot of BREAD CRUMBS all over this pasta dish! it really ruins it for me. I want to order this again, but need to make sure they don’t put bread crumbs on my pasta!
We also ordered the burrata pizza, and it came out room temperature! PIzza is supposed to be served hot ;/. If you want good pizza - see my separate 5 stars review for Ciao Pizza, about 6 minutes walk away from Wine Connection, a terrific place for real Italian style pizza with a huge brick pizza oven right in the dining room so the pizza comes to your table HOT - great thin, crispy chewy crust!
This was our let down experience, twice in the past 10 days. So we won’t be coming bak and will stick with Chu Choclate about 10 mins walk away inside the Trinity Hotel. Chu has a similar but broader menu - all day. breakfast items - omlettes, pancakes, waffles, Europen sipping choclates, pasta, entrees, sandwiches, and even house made buttermilk biscuits, cookies and brownie! We’ll stick with Chu for consistently well prepared food and friendly service (see my separate...
Read moreLove this place! The Wine Connection bistro is located right off the main road of mall, very easy to get to very easy to find. Often me and my friends would go there whenever we were near the Silom Complex. My go to order is the Caesar salad and their four-cheese pizza, something I would definitely recommend if you like the taste of blue cheese. The environment is nice if you want to relax and catch up with friends, inside the restaurant is rather dim and dark but I suppose that is the atmosphere they were going for. All the dishes me and my friends had more delicious and high quality, definitely one of the better places to go to if you are looking for some authentic Italian food that is easy to find in Bangkok. They often have special offers such as their lunchtime deals where you can get a pizza or pasta, side or salad as well as a soft drink for 199 baht and if you have the app Eatigo you can get discounts for certain times. The staff were super friendly and the service was excellent. I have been to many Wine Connection chains before and I Would 100% recommend a visit if you are nearby. Will definitely be back if...
