A popular name on the island with Italian menus and seafood specialties. The dinner was good but not as polished as I had anticipated. The restaurant was spacious, and the seating and table arrangement is nicely spaced. I particularly like their open kitchen design. The décor is fresh and inviting – would love to come here at dusk.
All staff speak good English but could use a little attention on some hospitality touchpoints. The menus were lightly described; most of what I heard from the waitress was “this” or “that” being the popular dish etc, and I feel this could be more comprehensively explained – for a passionate, upscale representation of their thoughtful menus.
The food was generally good; but my verdict is based on the following mixed reviews. The baby octopus was a little sour, but this flavour kick is understandable with the accompanying fresh cherry tomatoes and parsley; however, the octopus itself felt somewhat overcooked – it was tough slicing into bits and pieces and was tight and chewy. The queen fish carpaccio was overpowered by heavy oil and salted condiments in the mixture, so I couldn’t really taste the fish – something that’s supposed to shine as much as the rest of the ingredients. The guazzetto di cozze e vongole was wonderful, nicely cooked and the delicious sauce was a non-stop for me. If there’s a downside to this is that it should be enjoyed with some bread, and nothing came with it. We had to request some breads to be served, and as a busy restaurant it became a process that had to take additional ounce of time. The linguini vongole was great, the pasta was nicely executed and not overdone and not overpowered by chili. The thread fin was subpar; what was supposed to be the main show – with some of the highest prices on our bill – turned out to be the least. While the freshness of the fish is there, the grill on the skin was so prominent that most of the time the mild flavour of the fish was easily taken away from tastes of burnt charcoal. It is at least good the kitchen went abundant with the contrasting capsicum/ bell peppers to garnish atop. Too full for desserts that night, so didn’t go with any. We had water mostly, and the restaurant serves only Aqua Panna. My companion enjoyed her lemonade.
To note additionally, the service was off as friends and myself were dining. I had thought it was made clear that we were sharing our dishes and the staff were aware of this, yet it seemed like they have no clue whatsoever to bring over a communal spoon / fork for each and every plate… This lack of attention is way below common sense. Otherwise, the staff were attentive and helpful to additional requests despite the quite busy environment.
This isn’t a five star experience for me, since some produce and dishes and hospitality could do a little touchup, but otherwise good ambience and some well...
Read moreA popular name on the island, offering Italian menus and modern seafood specialties. Having dined here before, I found this visit even more enjoyable, with noticeable improvements in flavour and food quality. The restaurant is spacious, well-arranged and dining here is undoubtedly comfy (although busy). I particularly liked the open kitchen concept. Fresh and inviting decor- with refreshing sea views overlooking the Fisherman's Village in the distance.
The staff communicate well in English. I found that the explanation behind the menus is more thorough this time, and the staff are able to provide clearer idea of the dishes here. To the food, all the dishes here were incredible. Though, I found the carbonara a bit heavy on the salt and the spaghetti somewhat brittle. The wines were well prepared and served nicely at the right temperature.
Since companions and I enjoyed the dinner in shared meal, it would have been thoughtful of the management if additional cutlery / communal spoons / forks had been provided for each and every dish. This part of the service is yet again overlooked, despite my multiple visits. That said the staff are generally attentive and helpful, even during the busy atmosphere.
Overall the dishes were great and freshly prepared. The mixed seafood platter and the grilled golden snapper were the stars of the show - for personal highlights. The cabbage with anchovy and cream was surprisingly refreshing and flavourful - surely worthy of mention. With hospitality touchup, the experience would...
Read moreI’ve visited this place twice—while the first visit was truly excellent, the second was a bit disappointing. The grilled fish we had on our first visit was fantastic, and the staff were attentive, kind, and helpful. That great experience is why we decided to return, this time with a group of visiting friends and a toddler. We arrived quite late, around 9:20 PM, but the Google listing said the restaurant was open until 11 PM.
Upon arrival, the manager informed us they actually close at 10 PM but said he would let us in. However, he also made it clear that service would be rushed due to how busy they were—which didn’t feel like the warmest welcome. One of our friends, who is Italian and knows the chef, helped us settle in, but unfortunately, the grilled fish we came for was already sold out.
Trying to make things easier, we attempted to place our order quickly. However, the manager told my friend he’d ask a server to take the order instead, saying they’d “probably be better at it,” which came off as a bit dismissive. We did our best to enjoy the meal, but overall, the atmosphere felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming. The food was still decent, though noticeably saltier than our previous visit.
As we were leaving, we overheard an argument between another customer and the owner at the reception, which added to the awkward vibe that evening. Overall, the second visit just didn’t live up to the first, and it left us with...
