First ⭐ this place is small up to 20 people, traditional Thai, sitting on the floor on traditional seats. Right on off the main road. Minutes from the beach. Well located just before all the craziness Kho Samui has to offer. Beside the famous Thai boxing school.
Second ⭐ great service from the owner Sandee. She is a joy full of bubbles, with an understanding of English. Her sister works next door as a seamstress and mopped rental.
Third ⭐ the best Thai food so far in Kho Samui Cooking traditional Thai food. To your liking hot 🔥🥵 or mild up to you. Everything freshly made, so it takes a bit longer than normal. We've been back half a dozen times in the 4 days this far. Trying everything on the menu.
Fourth ⭐ 💫 the atmosphere is very tradition and relaxing you can quite easily spend the day here chillaxing. To the sounds of Thai music and a beer in hand or one of her fantastic fruit smoothies. 6 times here and the food is consistent the key to a great restaurant.
Fifth ⭐ this little hidden gem at super affordable pricing for the food you get, has to be the place to eat on the island. We my partners and I thoroughly enjoyed the food here on every occasion. thumbs up...
Read moreSweet Basil was a highlight of my experience in Koh Samui. The owner Sandee cooks everything fresh, one meal at a time. First I had the Chicken (and then also Shrimp / “Koong”) Khao Soi. To make it gluten-friendly, I substituted “woonseng” (glass noodles) for the standard noodles that come with it. The Khao Soi is absolutely fantastic - it has so much flavor and is healthy too as it is made with coconut milk. Another go-to dish was the Tom Yum soup which was excellent with shrimp. And finally of course the Shrimp Pad Thai - plenty of egg and shrimp and tofu with yummy rice noodles. As they say, if a Thai restaurant does Pad Thai right it’s a great sign. I had each dish twice because they were all just that good. Sandee is very accommodating and always got my order right despite my dietary restrictions and preferences. She is kind and radiant and you can taste the love she puts into each meal. Please do yourself a favor and support this wonderful new...
Read moreWe stumbled across Sweet Basil in Lamai and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. We ordered the Penang curry, spring rolls, and the khao soi and everything was incredible, but the khao soi truly stole the show. We’ve spent time in Northern Thailand and honestly, this was even better than what we’ve had up there. Rich, creamy, perfectly spiced - absolutely unforgettable.
The restaurant itself is a small, cozy place with a relaxed vibe. It’s run by two lovely ladies - very welcoming, and genuinely kind. You can tell they cook with love and take pride in what they do.
If you’re in Koh Samui and love authentic Thai food, don’t miss this spot. It’s the kind of hidden gem you’ll want to come back to...
