We were introduced to Thai style rice porridge by our hotel and was excited to check this spot out! When we first arrived the place was packed which hopefully is a good sign of their food! We ordered their signature dry boiled rice, an order of ramen, and a side of crispy pork. If you're not into offals, this is not the place for you. Although it doesn't explicitly say, both the rice and ramen, which was just an instant noodle packet, included offals.
The rice came with crispy pork, deep fried pork skin which provided a good contrasting texture to the porridge, and as previously mentioned offals. Aside from the crunchy pork skin however, the rice was plain and did not have much flavour. There was also a pork meatball that was too salty for my taste.
The ramen had the same toppings but also had an instant noodle soup base. It wasn't bad, but definitely could be made at the corner 7-11 and nothing to write home about.
The crispy pork is one of their signature dishes. The skin had a light golden colour and was perfectly crisp. The meat on the other hand was a bit dry. It was probably cooked a while ago and left out a bit too long.
Overall, I would recommend skipping this spot for some other recommendations if you're only here for a short while. One Chun in Phuket Town would be a better bet for...
Read moreThis is a must-visit restaurant in Phuket old town. The price of the food doesn't reflect the taste because this restaurant has nothing to envy from other higher price restaurant's in the town. The crispy pork is delicious and the soups have amazing flavors. I recommend a soup for each and crispy pork for sharing. You might encounter issues because the level of English is not great but the menu is written in English so be prepared to point, smile and you will be fine. I recommend a soup for each person and crispy pork for sharing. Many reviews complain about the level of hygiene, what I have to say is that everything was clean and you should not be worry about what they do with used dishes. It is very common to encounter this hygiene standars in Thailand street food restaurants. If you prefer luxury dining this is not the place for you but keep my words, the taste of the dishes is comparable with michelin star restaurants. If you are vegetarian this is not a restaurant for you because you will not find any dishes but that is understandable if you keep in mind the style of food that they serve. All in all, I was thinking to rate 4 stars but the food is exceptionally tasteful so nothing less than 5 stars would...
Read morePhuket's 4 times winner of Bib Gourmand - They claim to be the Kow Tom Haeng (Pork organs rice broth with broth on the side) 🥣🍚🐷shop with the longest queue in the world....Store opens at 5pm til late into the AMs and would have queues forming from before then, sometimes. Where Bangkok has Jay Fai, Phuket has Go Benz (Uncle Benz). I'd say, it was flavorful, the broth was very aromatic, though low on white pepper that is typical of this style of pork organs broth. The organs were clean but a little overcooked, the minced pork did not skimp on ingredients and has a lot of meat. The rice was very interesting, fine grains, but not hard, the fried garlic was very aromatic. Crispy pork wasn't that crispy though. Overall, had a good meal, but does it compete with the Bangkok crew?...I'd say not really. The queue is truly long but not due to any operational failure on the stores part, it really is THAT popular.. somehow. It's unique, and good food, so no regrets, but would not queue for longer than 10mins just to have...
