Jyak & Lym is a great new place for Peranakan/Nyonya cuisine (which is basically a fusion of different cuisines found throughout south and southeast Asia) that is near the Salae Daeng BTS/Lumphini Park. It's a four floor restaurant with main dining on the third floor and a cocktail bar located on the 4th floor and the rooftop. The decor is intentionally eclectic - chairs, tables, even the upholstery on the bench seating were selected and placed so as to create a fun and harmonious balance - which helps to set it apart from the more standardized and somewhat boring designs of other restaurants (this may of course speak to personal bias, or perhaps to childhood trauma and chain restaurants, but such is taste). I went on a date here and ordered five dishes (see pictures). The Chicken Satay was perfectly cooked - my usual experience with these kinds of skewers is that they are either dry or tough or overcooked - these were not. (And I know what constitutes properly cooked chicken - many are the birds that have died for my somewhat repetitive bodybuilder kind of diet). Pie Tee are these perfectly excellent thin, crisp pastry cups filled with stir fried meat, carrots and turnips. It came with a non-spicy chili garnish. Absolutely recommend. My favorite main dish was the Duck Egg Char Koay Teow, and it's their most popular seller. I think the easiest way to conceptualize it is as a variant of pad Thai in that a lot of the underlying elements and textures are the same, but the flavors are quite distinctly different. My date particularly enjoyed the Nyonya Nasi Goreng (rice and shrimp dish) - to the point where he tried to convince me that I should just let him have that... Our final dish was the Beef Rendang. I have a particular fondness for anything with a coconut base and I liked the (from an American mindset anyway) Christmassy spices (cinnamon, star anise, cloves) that were used in the sauce. I will say that across the board, none of the food felt greasy or heavy. It was all really beautifully prepared and a pleasure to eat. It was also served in a very timely manner and not weirdly staggered - things came out when they were supposed to come out and came out quickly. I will definitely be going back and am looking forward to trying everything...

As the evening sun cast its golden glow over the bustling streets of Bangkok, my friends and I found ourselves wandering aimlessly along Sathon Road, in search of a delectable dinner to cap off our day. Little did we know that a fortuitous turn would lead us to an extraordinary culinary experience.

Our eyes were immediately drawn to a charming establishment nestled amidst the vibrant cityscape. Unlike its conventional counterparts, this restaurant exuded a unique aura, beckoning us with its enigmatic charm. Stepping through its doors, we were greeted by the warm and welcoming smiles of the affable staff.

Eager to share their passion for food, the staff eagerly described the tantalizing menu items, each dish brimming with creativity and bursting with flavors. The owner himself joined us, taking us on a delightful tour of the multi-story establishment, personally recommending mouth-watering dishes and refreshing beverages that perfectly complemented our individual tastes.

As we savored each delectable bite, we were enveloped in a sense of warmth and camaraderie. The attentive staff ensured that our every need was met, while the owner's genuine hospitality made us feel right at home. It was an unforgettable evening, filled with laughter, good food, and excellent company.

Needless to say, we left the restaurant with full bellies and happy hearts. We vowed to return soon, eager to once again immerse ourselves in the magical atmosphere and indulge in the gastronomic delights that awaited us. This hidden gem had truly captured our hearts, and we couldn't wait to share its wonders...

My experience at Jyak & Lym was nothing short of exceptional! From the moment we stepped in, we were enveloped in the warmth of Southeast Asian hospitality. The owners, Jonathan Goh and Daniel Bombardi, went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was memorable.

The Peranakan dishes we indulged in were an explosion of flavors that left our taste buds dancing with joy. The chicken satay was a highlight, surpassing even those served onboard Singapore Airlines – a true testament to its excellence! Each bite was tender, succulent, and bursting with rich, aromatic spices.

I opted for the Nasi Goreng, and it was nothing short of perfection. The fragrant rice paired impeccably with the assortment of spices, creating a harmonious symphony of flavors that delighted my palate. My friend savored the Kway Teow, which was equally delightful, showcasing the chef’s mastery of Peranakan cuisine.

To top it all off, we were fortunate enough to try their famous signature dish, Kueh Pie Tie, thanks to the generosity of a neighboring table. It was a delightful medley of flavors and textures, a true culinary masterpiece that left us craving for more.

Overall, our dining experience at Jyak & Lym was a delightful journey through the vibrant flavors of Peranakan cuisine, complemented by the genuine warmth and hospitality of the staff, especially Jonathan and Daniel. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough to anyone seeking an unforgettable culinary adventure in Bangkok. We’ll definitely be returning soon for another...
