Read moreI got there rather early on a Friday evening, so thankfully it wasn’t too crowded yet. Found this place randomly looking for dinner places on Google in the neighbourhood.
Love the ambience of the place, where the lovely bar dominates and a staircase on the right that leads to more seating upstairs. Was welcomed by a staff who spoke perfect English (my Thai is limited to counting 1-10 and asking where the toilet is, so yes, I’m grateful). Asked her for the recommendation and the Tom Kha Salad was recommended and I chose the duck confit pad Thai, topped off with a mango cheesecake for dessert.
I ordered the vegetable Tom Kha salad, and I cut into the nuggets which I had no idea what they were: it was the vegetables like broccoli and carrots! Combined with the dressing of coconut milk, lime, lemongrass and chilli (I’m sure I’m wrong), it was a great start.
I was given the choice of having the pad Thai served after my salad, but I underestimated the amount of time my curiosity would take me from finishing the salad quicker, so sadly, by the time I started on the pad Thai, the noodles were starting to stick. Combined with the savoury of the duck confit, it was a classic Thai explosion of different flavours. The duck fell off the bone easy enough.
Finished off with the dessert, and I loved the presentation, yet again. The lemon sorbet was amazingly refreshing on a balmy evening, and I must admit that I was confused by the sliced leaves on the top of the mango mousse: it was basil! The combination worked well because nothing go in the way of each other, yet combining into an interesting taste.
I did spend a bit of time checking in with the staff about the flavours, and they were kind to indulge in my curiosity. Wonderful experience with not only the food and the hospitality. Will be back when...
Read moreBeen here for dinner with my girlfriend. The athmosphere of the place is quite nice and friendly. The restaurant caters to (western) tourists - But thats what we expected.
Positive: The menu itself is small, nice and compact. Not overwhelming and confusing. There is enough interesting sounding food, so anyone will find something.
The plating was good, i enjoyed looking at the different dishes we ordered. Same with the drinks - they looked great!
Negative: We got three different dishes: Stir-Fried Shiitake Mushrooms all ingredients individually well done, but didnt really make sense all together
Spicy Prawn and Watermelon Canapés That sounded nice but the cold watermelon paired with almost flavorless minced prawn was more than disappointing
Kha's Duck Confit our favorite, the duck was very tasty, the arancini balls were very tasty on the inside but missing the crunch on the outside). the red curry sauce, pumpkin puree and crispy taro didnt add anything to the meal though.
To sum it up: Good looks but not much under the hood. i would give 3.5* but as its not possible we decided to give 3* factoring in we paid 1600+ tbh for two without drinking any alcohol. this place bridges the gap for people that want to tell their relatives at home that they have been „eating outside“ in bangkok without leaving their comfort zone of a hotel style...
