For several decades I made a pilgrimage to New Orleans every year, I would ritualistically walk past Cafe du Monde with three blocks and enter a little shop called Cafe beignet to me this shop has the best beignets in New Orleans they're always hot beautifully fresh and the coffee is exquisite.
It has been 7 years since I've been able to indulge in this ritual, career life and other events taking me around the globe then while strolling down a street in Bangkok I saw a sign with white letters on a black background but simply said Nola
I entered the shop not knowing what to expect as I have seen hundreds if not a thousands of establishments claiming to provide an experience or claiming to have the style of food from other locations and cultures and had them fall flat
I am perplexed at how much these beignets remind me of Cafe beignet, they are flawless fresh warm air filled pastries served with an exceptional coffee, If I close my eyes I can hear a calliope in the distance a top a riverboat
This unexpected gem give me a taste of something I've been missing for almost a decade and for that I am ever grateful, I cannot recommend this place highly enough and I look forward to trying the rest of the dishes in this clean simple stylish environment

Read moreNew spot in the neighborhood, I think the same owners as the fancy Tina’s down the street. Cool decor with old maps of New Orleans (and one random multicolor hippo 😂), sort of seems like they are trying to straddle the line of pleasing local customers with familiar items, and more adventurous/Americans with the Cajun inspired stuff. When I came around 11 am, there was a sign saying free beignet with a drink purchase, but I had to ask for that offer and the beignet’s weren’t ready yet? I waited and they eventually brought me one. Coffee was good, prices normal for the area. No credit cards, only cash or QR. I might come back for lunch but being totally empty (no customers), the vibes...
