A small dessert shop in a small alley located in a Kudichin, an old Portuguese community in Bangkok. The owner was very friendly and gave me advice about tourist spots in the community. The shop sells only a local sweet signature, Khanom farang kudichin (Thai-style cake influenced by Portuguese dessert), it is in two sizes large and small for the price of 50 and 20 THB. It tastes like Khanom Khai (Thai-style oval sweet cake made with egg and sugar) but has a crispy and crumbly texture because the shop bakes it without using baking soda and uses duck eggs instead of chicken eggs. Fantastic little cafe. Great tea and coffee and the traditional cakes are really interesting. Ask for a description of what everything 'means'. Fresh cakes are made throughout the day. Owners really make this place. Not the easiest place to find but if you visit the santa cruz church first. Walk to the Northern side and follow the signs to the museum (definitely take a wander around here) and then the bakery is just around the corner - ask for directions. ขนมฝรั่งกุฎีจีน ( Khanom farang kudi chin is a Thai-style cake that was influenced by Portuguese desserts since the Ayutthaya era) เป็นขนมดั้งเดิมของชาวชุมชนกุฎีจีนเชื้อสายโปรตุเกส แขวงวัดกัลยาณ์ เขตธนบุรีมีลักษณะเหมือนขนมไข่ รูปร่างคล้ายถ้วยปากกว้าง ทำจากแป้งสาลี ผสมน้ำตาลและไข่เป็ด ทำให้สุกด้วยการอบมีลักษณะกรอบนอกนุ่มใน หน้าขนมโรยด้วยน้ำตาลและแต่งหน้าด้วยลูกเกด ลูกพลับแห้ง และฟักเชื่อม การทำขนมฝรั่งกุฎีจีนมีมาช้านานเป็นสินค้าที่มีชื่อเสียงมากกว่า 200 ปี โดยชาวโปรตุเกสถ่ายทอดการทำขนมฝรั่งให้แก่คนในชุมชน และมีการสืบทอดการทำขนมฝรั่งมาจนถึงปัจจุบันเป็นรุ่นที่ 5

ขนมฝรั่งกุฎีจีน เป็นขนมตำรับโบราณสืบทอดในกลุ่มชาวคริสต์ เชื้อสายโปรตุเกส ซึ่งอาศัยอยู่ในชุมชนกุฎีจีนฝั่งธนบุรีมาตั้งแต่สมัยพระเจ้ากรุงธนบุรี (พระเจ้าตากสินมหาราช) จนมีคำกล่าวคุ้นหูคนกรุงเทพ ฯ ว่า “ข้าวหลามตัดวัดระฆังขนมฝรั่งกุฎีจีน” ปัจจุบันคงเหลือบ้านที่ทำอยู่เพียง 3 ตระกูล ได้แก่ บ้านธนูสิงห์ บ้านหลานแม่เป้าและบ้านป้าเล็ก ซึ่งยังคงสูตรต้นตำรับดั้งเดิมที่ยังคงเหลืออยู่ (ในภาพที่ลงนี้ ถ่ายจากร้าน บ้านธนูสิงห์)
