We had dinner at Cipriani last night, a group of three, after hearing so many great things about the place. It’s known for its quality food, warm hospitality, and especially its desserts, which I had mentally shortlisted even before we arrived!
The restaurant is definitely upscale, and you can tell from the clientele and overall vibe. The ambience was okay, but personally, I found it a bit too crowded for my taste. The tables are quite close together, which made it feel a little tight.
To start, we had the burrata, and wow. One of the best I’ve had in Istanbul. It actually reminded me of the burratas I’ve had in Rome. Creamy, fresh, absolutely divine.
We also tried the fennel and avocado salad with shaved parmesan, mostly out of curiosity, since both fennel and avocado are pretty mild. I was hoping the restaurant would give it a twist to make the flavors pop… but unfortunately, it didn’t. It felt like chopped fennel and avocado with a squeeze of lemon. We didn’t finish it.
For mains, I ordered the baked white tagliarelle with mushrooms, my mom had the rigatoni cacio e pepe, and we got the tagliata steak with mushroom sauce and mashed potatoes for my son.
Honestly, all three dishes were disappointing. The rigatoni was undercooked, more so than a typical al dente, and the sauce was just way too heavy. We had two bites and left the rest. The baked tagliarelle tasted like a last-minute kitchen experiment, pasta overcooked and stuck together in a shallow dish, topped with melted parmesan. Not enjoyable.
The steak was cooked well, but had zero seasoning, not even salt or pepper. My son usually finishes his steak without a second thought, but he left some behind, which says a lot. I had asked for the mushroom sauce on the side (thankfully), because the taste was so overpowering it would’ve ruined the dish for him. The mashed potatoes were also subpar.
I had been so excited about dessert, the vanilla meringue cake and gelato both sounded amazing, but after the mains, we decided to skip it. Didn’t want to risk another letdown, especially at those prices.
We paid 8,700 TL including the 10% service charge. I have no issue paying for good food, but it really stings when most of what you ordered ends up uneaten.
Also worth noting: parking isn't easy in the area. They do offer valet, or there’s a public otopark down the slope to the left of the restaurant, next to the Hyatt.
To be fair, this is just my (and my mom’s) personal opinion. I know many people love this place, and I really wanted to be one of them. But based on this visit, I personally...
