Orfoz is clearly not going to receive a Michelin for several reasons: lack-luster recipes and cooking, low quality service, shady practices, and it is just all around “decent” but not memorable or great.
I have been to many Michelin and Michelin-recommended restaurants all over the world and not a single one has offered us items without telling us there is an extra charge. I have had tasting menus at many of them and it is common that the restaurant will give a complimentary dish, especially for special occasions. Orfoz will charge you! DO NOT ACCEPT THE EXTRAS! As of May 2025, prefix menu price is 3,000 TRY per person, so we expected to pay 6,000 TRY + a little for one water bottle. The primary waiter/manager will come to you middle of the meal and vaguely say “we have an off-menu items, want to try?” Context: We came here on our honeymoon. Every single other restaurant and our hotel have all given us a token (some small as a complimentary dessert or beverage, some large like the MGallery Hotel went extremely generous in several ways) to congratulate us. So, the way he phrased it, we thought he was bringing us complimentary plates for our special dinner. Nope! When the final bill came, it was OVER 10,300 TRY. No itemized receipt or explanation, just a total. Zero transparency and such a scam. The table next to us made similar remarks when they received their bill. Ridiculous for the quality of the food! I am not complaining about the size. I understand tasting menus are small portions- I love small portion tasting menus. But the quality of the recipes and cooking leaves something missing. Of the 12 dishes we had, I would order 2 again if they were on an a la carte menu.
Primary server/waiter is the biggest problem since he is the person who brings food without pricing transparency and since he refused to acknowledge our special occasion. This restaurant did not mention a mere congratulations to us a single time, even though we mentioned it in the booking and we reminded them of it at dinner in Turkish. Still, no response when we reminded them. Advice: you don’t have to give a complimentary dish or beverage, although your competitors do and the other Michelins you want to be do. But at a minimum, have some class and say congratulations to the newly married couple. The lack of class is a reflection of the entire restaurant.
The staff are not trained properly. Several times our glasses were empty. As the restaurant is going to add a substantial service fee, why am I filling my own glass and cleaning food off of the table? All of the tables around us had empty glasses the majority of the meal. The primary waiter/server even had to tell the other waitress just standing there to do better. We were one of seven tables over a 3-hour span, and they have several staff, but some of them are just standing there not busy.
TLDR: this restaurant feeds off first time guests and charges ridiculous prices knowing most are visitors who will not return, so they might as well make extra money with shady practices. It did not meet expectations. We regret going here and wish we had gone to Dinç instead. Or, go to Zuma for the same price and have a high quality...
Read moreThe inflation crises in Turkey has got out of hand. I’m a Brit who lived for seven years in London as a corporate M&A lawyer used to dining out and Istanbul for the last three but this restaurant is the most expensive and underwhelming I have eaten at in the last decade.
The price for three people (one of them pregnant and not eating) came to 15,000 lira. That’s $500. The measures on the tasting wine selection are pathetic at most a ‘thimble’ and certainly not full glasses. The aim seems to be to get you to order even more overpriced drinks rather than anything approaching a wine pairing with food. For two people, it’s £100 for what was pretty run of the mill plonk. If you do go do yourself a favour and order a bottle. That way you might at least be a little tipsy by the time the astronomical bill arrives.
The food, again, nothing at all special and the people posting positive reviews have never eaten in London, New York or Tokyo. The salad looked like something a nine year old would make. The fish soup, pleasant but distinctly under seasoned. The ‘paella’ came in a dish the size of a crème brûlée - for three people.
The price point now is 1/2 Michelin star but everything about the place is a neighbourhood eatery in an average part of London - apart from the prices which, given the quality, would make the Dorchester blush.
If you are coming on holiday to Bodrum in 2024 and want to drop this amount of money at this restaurant you either have no taste or too much money or both.
If like me you live in Turkey then I’m sure in two months they will double the prices again and you’ll pay $1000 usd for a really average meal. Again, so many good restaurants in Bodrum to pick from this is just an old fashioned stitch up/tourist trap.
The pregnant member of our party was particularly aghast that despite not having any wine, any food or anything beyond sparkling water at £13 a bottle, it still cost £110 for her ‘dinner’.
Anyway, if you read this review and still go then I feel very sorry for you. There are tons of better restaurants in Bodrum which serve better food for a fraction of the price. I rarely post reviews but frankly this place overcame my usual sang...
Read moreI usually enjoy trying Michelin Guide restaurants, but I honestly don’t understand how this place is listed there. I visit many recommended places and normally leave satisfied, but this was sadly not a pleasant experience. Between the hygiene concerns, the high prices, the rushed service, and the lack of proper communication, I cannot recommend this restaurant for the price level.
I had an unpleasant experience with the food. To my shock, I found a hair baked into the cheese on my dish — you could actually pull the hair along with the melted cheese. Upon request, they exchanged the plate but there was no sincere apology or any efforts at all to make up for the ruined dinner.
On top of that, prices are high compared to the quality of food offered. The service felt rushed — my plate was taken away the very moment I finished my last bite, which made the whole experience uncomfortable.
Another issue was communication. The staff’s English level was not sufficient, and they were not able to explain the dishes properly. A friend of mine who speaks Turkish had to remind them again and again to clarify in English, but even then the explanations were not clear. At some point we had to use online translation tools just to understand what we were...
