hidden gem of Sultanahmed, tucked away in a side alley – Sezgin. A culinary treasure awaiting those who venture off the beaten path. My choice, the lamb kebab, was nothing short of a delight. The meat, succulent and oozing flavorful juices, embraced by a delectable layer of well-seasoned fat. The rice, an aromatic canvas painted with spices, provided both color and a rich taste. The salad, a slightly savory companion, danced harmoniously with the meat, creating a symphony on the plate.

The anticipation was met with a patient 17 minutes and 10 seconds of food preparation, a testament to the craftsmanship in the kitchen. The staff, though not fluent in English, extended genuine warmth, making every effort to ensure we felt welcomed.

What sets Sezgin apart isn't just the culinary prowess; it's the affordability. In a locale where dining expenses can climb, the fare and beer here were refreshingly light on the pocket. A true hidden gem, Sezgin offers an authentic experience where language barriers fade, and the flavors speak volumes....

This is a nice little place, friendly and (relatively) inexpensive.

Having been to Turkey seven times, the food was good but not great. However, finding great food in restaurants outside of Istanbul's residential areas seems nearly impossible. Help! I thought we were going to eat great food everywhere like we have every time we've been to Turkey, but not Istanbul in 2024.

The Sezgin serves good honest "tourist fare", reasonably priced and good quality, just not up to the outstanding levels of Turkish food we've had before.

The prices, while reasonable compared to many places, are still a little steep for Turkey, but a beer costs 40% of what you pay in most places in Sultanahmet, and the food amongst the most reasonable prices in Istanbul.

Nice atmosphere and genuine Turkish...

Arrived in Istanbul Sunday tea time. By the time we got to the hotel and unpacked, the plan was to have a couple of beers then get a takeaway Pide back to the room.

Had googled for pubs in Istanbul so headed here. Decided to eat on seeing the food heading to other tables.

So glad we did. Ann's vegetarian and was very impressed, my chicken was tasty.

So good just been back. I recommend the stuffed mussels and fish casserole. Sea bream I think. Very good. Service excellent.

In Istanbul for another week, be surprised if we don't return...
