Days before dining at the sushi branch, I had dinner at their ramen branch. I didn't order sushi then, and for some reason, they didn't have vegan takoyaki at their other branch. I decided to have dinner at the sushi branch to have vegan takoyaki and to also order vegan sushi.
Takoyaki traditionally has noticeable octopus inside as a filling. I did expect this vegan takoyaki to at least have a filling, such as shiitake mushrooms, for example, but nope. No filling at all. The sauces were decent though, but I felt having some sort of filling than just takoyaki dough would make it better.
As for the sushi, I was curious about the vegan caviar…and it was interesting. It didn’t taste like anything. Mainly just round little tasteless beads. I think it’s more so an aesthetic addition. Sushi tasted decent. Maybe the combination was not a right choice. Although I say this as generally I’m not a fan of tofu in sushi. I would order a different sushi.
Menu is QR. Has a “vegan sushi” section and marks dishes that are vegan. Unlike the other branch that has ramen, this one is small. Tables included soy sauce, chopsticks, but missing the sauce pot (had to request for it).
At first, it seemed they didn’t want to seat me even though two tables would be free as I was alone. The staff suggested I could go to the ramen bar (I went already) if I wanted sushi. I firmly said “no, I won’t go to the ramen bar. I want vegan takoyaki” (ramen branch didn’t have any). Finally, they gave me a table. The customer who came after me were a pair and could use the...
Read moreNot what I expected... Ok so, I called the staff beforehand if they would take reservations ( which I have been told by the staff ' we do not take any reservations ' )
Then you drive your car, arrive at the place ( good luck finding a good & safe parking spot in those tight streets of Kadikoy ) and you see a really small minimalistic ( even smaller by japanese standards ) sushi restaurant ( or bar or whatever ) of course now that you have arrived with your 4 other friends with high expectations and hope to find good asian food, you are surrounded with 希望. But what you receive is ' we are full at the moment , could you kindly say us your name and phone number so we can call you when the table is empty' person.
Of course, which was acceptable if you would have just told us that you have to reserve for a table before and we would have waited no problem. ( Which in the end we waited and finally sat down to eat some food ).
Now, food was good, they even make their own soy sauce with some spicy texture and taste on it.
Price was also considerable, authentic Japanese, Chinese cousine for not too expensive price was ideal for us.
P.s. I wouldn't suggest eating any roll from here, as no one from our table at that time liked it. I am not sure if they have improved it or changed the recipe...
Read moreI’m usually used to eating sushi in the states, so I wasn’t expecting much in terms of sushi taste and quality in Turkey, but I was pleasantly surprised. Ororo had a nice selection of sushi entrees as well as other asian inspired dishes.
We had a lo-mein dish, general tso’s chicken, as well as two other rolls. The general tso’s wasn’t what I was expecting and was more akin to a sweet and sour chicken dish. General tso’s is usually sweet and spicy, with a bit of a kick with a touch of garlic (in my experience), but this one wasn’t like that. The lo-mein was good, but not the best. The sushi rolls were fresh for sure, but it didn’t give the best results in terms of actual sushi feel. Their tempura wasn’t quite tempura, although it was crunchy.
The presentation on the dishes were nice. The spacing of tables was adequate with plexiglass separating indoor diners. There’s a bit of a table shortage problem, but that’s not there fault. They have a limited space to work with.
If you’re craving sushi this will definitely help with your satiety, however I’m sure there are better...
