Beautiful venue. Wouldn’t think such a nice restaurant with a beautiful patio would be on the busy (and often dirty) streets of Kadıköy.
This is the kind of place you could bring a date. Beautiful patio, decorated with plants, lights, and the evening we went it was dimly lit. It had heaters for the outside as well.
The atmosphere is really what earned it’s 5 stars in my book. The food was good, but not amazing.
If you’re used to eating steaks in North America (ie medium rare etc) then I would not recommend the steak. I asked for medium rare and it came so rare it felt like a raw steak when I touched it with my fork. I asked for them to cook it some more and the waiter kindly obliged. The steak was drenched in this mushroom sauce. It tasted ok, but the whole thing was kind of a mess. I got the Viktor Levi special.
The mezes were good. I really enjoyed the shakshuka style eggplant one. The roasted eggplant purée style one had an average flavour; I added salt to it.
The wine was tasty. We tried two - the “35” - an “easy drinking” red wine and a cherry flavored liquor wine. The regular wine was indeed easy drinking, a mix between dry and sweet. The cherry wine was very sweet, almost like a sangria, and it was a bit stronger in its alcohol percentage. It reminded me a bit of ice wine that i had in the Niagara region in Ontario, Canada. This one wasn’t for me. The cheese board went nicely with...
Read moreMezze Mc Donalds Grand Chique: Victor Levi is an oiled machine. It is the place where you would want to go for a blitz diner of 40 minutes with good drinks and food for moderate prices in a really nice jungle-like atmosphere. We barely finished our starters before our main dish was served. My wife was not seated while the main course was presented. We explained to the manager and to the owner that we did not perceive this as a hospitable way to treat guests. The anwer of the manager:"You had plenty of time. We always serve the main dish 20 minutes after the starters are served. Guests are expected to stay for 40 minutes in the restaurant". We understand that this is a profitable business model, but it is not the hospitality that we expect from a +4 stars Google rated restaurant. The restaurant's atmosphere is really nice and inviting for a long and relaxing diner but at odds with the expectations vis à vis guests to leave within the hour. The food was good and the service extremely efficiënt. I would recommend dishes with the Victor Levi signature. The wines are OK but the wine card is rather crypthic: key charachteristics such as region, vintage or grape are not listed, only a number and a price (e.g. victor levi nr 1). In my opinion, this restaurant is overrated and should only be visted if one is looking for a nice Mezze-style diner at a Mc...
Read moreThe place is a hidden gem in terms of aesthetics. It’s a beautiful garden patio vibe with two floors. It’s a large semi open space with boho classic vibes (the chandelier is a nice touch in the middle of what looks like a garden oasis).
The food came hot (fajitas). The steak and chicken were tender and hot. A good selection of veggies. A bit oily, but a good treat.
The salsa and guacamole that came with the plate were not so great. The gas cucumber in the guacamole. Not an authentic recipe or even close to the real deal. I advise whomever is reading this from the management to please fix this. A good guacamole needs only a few fresh ingredients (definitely no cucumber), all which are found locally around here.
The tortilla was good.
The salad was alright, arugula salad. Nothing special but it was what it was supposed to be.
The bread as a starter by default was a bit dry- would’ve been great to have it served with fresh olive oil and some olive paste that turkey is famous for. Would have you scaled the place a bit for not much effort or money.
A bit pricy but I think you’re paying for the whole experience. A wonderful place to bring a date or a few friends.
Friendly staff! Would come again, but please, please fix the guacamole. Google any recipes and follow it. Your place...
