Khana Khazana — Restaurant in Kampala

Recently found this place and thought it was by far the best Indian in town! I was also happily surprised by their 8k glasses of wine. I wish I could give 5 stars, but there seems to be a consistent pricing and customer service issue. The servers seem to get overwhelmed during high traffic dinner time, and the second time I came that resulted in our bill having another table's drinks added to our tab. No big deal, we notified the server but then they came by our table and assumed we were confused due to the 8k service charge (which they noted went only to the chef not to them). Upon further inspection of the bill, it also included 18% VAT which is NOT included in the menu prices. The VAT and service charge amounted to almost 40K added on to our bill! It's a bit unprofessional (and unlike other Kampala restaurants) to not include the VAT in the stated price of the menu but the added service charge and guilt tripping by the servers for an additional tip seemed rather unprofessional. Honestly, if it weren't for that I would definitely go back, but I'm probably going to stick with Copper Chimney from now since the more expensive wine would still be less than the hidden fees at...

A beautifully designed restaurant serving Indian cuisine. Good for a family outing or a private business meeting. The food portions are also good enough with both vegetarian and non vegetarian options. However, those who are having gluten or dairy products restrictions should ask first given that a lot of food menu has dairy products in it. I am not a big lover of Indian food, but was still every excited to give Khana Khazana a try - any restaurant with the word Treasure (Khazana) must be good, right? The restaurant is decorated in a Northern Indian style and they specialize in Tandoori based dishes.
