Asia Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Kyiv

I’ve been to a lot of fancy restaurants and rooftop bars in Kiev and I have to admit this is my favorite place so far. First, the rooftop bar (The Bar on 8) is amazing, there are beautiful sunsets, then there’s some really good food and an excellent wine selection, very nice atmosphere and a lot of cool people there. Speaking of people, it’s not really the food or the wine that makes this place so special – it’s the people. The waitresses there are very intelligent (they can actually read your mind!) and have a great sense of humor (plus, they’re also nice to look at, which never hurts) - Katya, Valeria, and Diana really make this place special.

The second review is for the Lobby lounge bar – it doesn’t have the same beautiful views as the rooftop, but it does have a cozy and classy atmosphere (transparent fireplace is very nice) plus some really amazing people. Irina (the waitress) is very smart, has a great sense of humor and a charming personality – also she cares a lot about her guests and always adds some nice personal touches. The bartenders there, Andrey and Alexey, are really good at what they do but most importantly they love to chat – I’ve had some of the most interesting conversations there. Mein Besuch war am Sonntag-Abend, Anfang Februar 2018. Ich hatte nach der Oper ("Norma") noch Appetit auf einen Happen asiatisches Essen. Wirklich sehr gut gegessen! Vorspeise (Octopus), Hauptgericht (Entenkeule), ukrainisches Bier, Mineralwasser und einen feinen Kaffee zum Schluss. Die Karte ist interessant und abwechslungsreich (nicht zu umfangreich aber trotzdem mit einer guten, kreativen und hochstehenden Auswahl) und das Ambiente ist modern und minimalistisch-edel, wie eben das gesamte Hotel, worin sich dieses Restaurant befindet. Die Bedienung war sehr aufmerksam, kompetent und freundlich: Eine sehr nette junge Frau, die hat das wirklich grossartig gemacht! Das grosszügige Trinkgeld (circa 20 Prozent des Rechnungsbetrags) hat sie sich dann auch wirklich verdient! Auch die Verständigung auf Englisch hat vorzüglich geklappt. Ein absoluter Super-1A-Service! Was nicht so erfreulich war: Der junge Herr unten am Eingang (sehr unfreundlich). Er muss seine Rolle als "Gastgeber" noch finden. Security-Mitarbeiter passt momentan eher. (Hey, ich bin Schweizer und war auch einmal im Militär, Hauptmann... ;-) Wenn ich frisch von der Oper im Anzug und mit Winterjacke ins Hyatt Regency Hotel 'einkehre', möchte ich eigentlich gerne als Gast und Zivilist begrüsst und behandelt werden - und nicht als Eindringling und potenzielles Sicherheitsrisiko. Ich habe das Restaurant gewählt: (a) wegen den positiven Internet-Rankings hinsichtlich der Küche und des Essens und (b) wegen den Öffnungszeiten (...offen und warme Küche bis Mitternacht). Wenn das Lokal bis um Mitternacht (24.00h) offen hat und ich um 22.35h komme, dann würde ich mir wünschen, dass ich nicht zusehen muss, wie zwei Mitarbeiter die offene Show-Küche mit Wok und allem 80 Minuten lang putzen. Und ich würde mir auch wünschen, dass man mir nicht um 23.30h zu verstehen gibt (von Seiten der Chefin), dass man langsam bezahlen und gehen soll (Ambiente-Lichtspiel-Beamer abstellen), Frühstück-Geschirr rund herum von einer weiteren Service-Kraft auftischen lassen, inkl. meinem direkten Nebentisch, und der Bedienung ins Ohr flüstern: "Sag ihm, dass er langsam gehen soll." OK, es war Sonntag-Abend und ich war der letzte (und einzige Gast), aber ich bin es mir gewohnt, dass ich auch wirklich als Gast behandelt werde bis ich zur Tür raus bin. So hatte ich eher das Gefühl, dass ich beim Feierabend-Machen (Putzen, Aufräumen, Vorbereiten wie klimpernd das Frühstücks-Gedeck für den nächsten Morgen bereit machen) gestört habe... Ich denke einfach, dass das nicht so ganz alles passt, wenn man bedenkt, dass sich das Restaurant in einem 5-Sterne-Luxus-Hotel befindet. Das wirklich gute Essen (trotz einiger Wartezeit bei beiden Gängen, obwohl ich ja der einzige Gast war) sowie die nette, kompetente und freundliche Bedienung machen aber dafür wieder einiges wett, weshalb es trotzdem noch 4 "wirklich gut gemeinte" Sterne gibt. Ich hoffe, das nächste Mal habe ich mehr Glück, denn die Küche macht ihre Arbeit wirklich sehr gut - und dies war ja auch der Grund, weshalb ich dieses Restaurant...

Liked the restaurant until today. I have booked a dinner for two on Valentine’s Day, when I arrived they told me that there is it “special “ menu instead of the regular one. This special menu head two main courses and one appetizer and dessert which is shameful for such a restaurant. When I explained that at the time of booking the table nobody told me about the “special “ menu and that I could have booked in any other place in town the manager said that there is nothing she could do.
