Verso has been selected for the Art on a Plate Chef's Table event. They had an exciting menu and we were keen to try it, especially since it's been a long while since we've been out because of the pandemic.
The numbers listed for Verso are only the Grand Hyatt reception numbers. I called on Sunday to book a reservation for Wednesday. Twice I was redirected to the restaurant but no one answered the phone. I did end up booking a reservation with the reception for Wednesday and gave my details as requested.
Cue Wednesday. Since we were a little late, I called up Grand Hyatt again to inform them we would be arriving 15 minutes later than my pre-booked time slot. The front office staff remembered me and confirmed she would inform the restaurant to hold the reservation.
We arrived at Verso and the hostess was confused. They were having an event and didn't have any tables for us. No one at Verso was aware of their own reservation system. The hostess kept trying to talk to multiple people telling us she will inform the restaurant manager that we had a reservation.
Things still got worse. No manager in sight, the lady told us there is only outdoor seating available. Again, not what I had asked for (during my call for reserving a table, I made sure to check all details pertaining to the Art on a Plate menu). So we headed outside and she leads us to a used table in a dingy corner. It wasn't cleared up and was quite honestly the last straw. We left at that point. Service quality was horrible, especially making us wait whilst you go in to get staff to clear a table and don't even do a proper place setting or proper sanitizing like the other tables.

We are big Abu Dhabi Brunchers and brunch most weekends and can honestly say we have been to very many in our 8 years living here. In my experience there are 6 key things when it comes to a brunch: Food Drinks Service Location / views Comfort / ambience Entertainment The food was ok, some items were good, but some were particularly not very good, for example the very poor and bony piece of lamb on their broiler, the poor chef struggled to get much meat off it. The Risotto was undercooked and in fact the grains of rice were hard and the sauce was watery. The selection of food was varied with typical Italian fare such as Anti-pasti, delicious focaccia, gelato ice cream and some great desserts. The Drinks on the house beverage package were good. I had prosecco which I thought was perfect to my tastes. The Service however, was poor. Yes they all smiled but I don't think we actually got any drinks without having to ask and wait for them, which for me is extremely disappointing. We waited for 15 mins before we got served our first drinks. The only view was of the pool. The tables were dirty, I don't think our table had been wiped clean before it had been laid. What an amazing experience! I’ve been eagerly awaiting for this, and it certainly did not disappoint. Today brought back so many memories of my time in Italy. I remember sitting in front of the Colosseum with a pizza in hand, and I completely fell in love with the country and food . Verso restaurant you revived that feeling all over again !!
It all began with a delicious Italian coffee and biscuits, served by the ever-so-chatty and welcoming manager Mr. Tommaso . As I sipped my coffee, the memories came flooding back—especially the warm hospitality and generosity of the Italians, which I felt again today. It’s no wonder people say you have to eat at Verso!
I had the privilege of participating in a pasta masterclass under the guidance of Chef Andre and his assistant. Together, we made 11 different types of pasta, and I can’t wait to try them in my own kitchen. To top it all off, we got to enjoy one of his new additions to their menu as well to end the whole experience I got to eat their creations with a beautiful Parmesan rocket salad.
