Mohalla........ the name in itself is so nostalgic, specially for the people like us, who can directly relate to mohalla ( which means community neighborhood in India). They had got plenty of seatings inside as well as outside. The interiors of the place is very ethnically done.... with Rajisthan inspired prints on the furniture ... some brass bells & decor pieces .....don't forget to notice an old hand pump just on the entrance...... even the ceiling is not neglected .. there are jute carpets hanging from the ceiling which really gives it an interesting look .... an art mural on one of the wall by an artist from Maharashtra .... last but not the last ...the floor to ceiling windows..... there is also plenty of natural light, with quirky references to India throughout.
Coming back to the food ...... The menu is designed creatively ....which says ‘small bhook’ (for starters) & ‘big bhook’ (for main course) ... so we started with some papad ... not any normal papad, but dosa papad which was served with various flavored chutnies which were served in a cute small tiffin.
From the starters..., we order.... Raj Kachori which is wonderfully crunchy, sweet & with a bit of spicy — it’s my favorite dish during our visit. 1965 Buhari .... their fried version of revolutionary chicken 65. Calamari Koliwada ..... crispy fried calamari... coated with goda spices.... tossed with chaat masala.... served with a delicious peanut dip. Thepla Tacos ..... an Indian version of tacos ... served in 3 different flavors of fillings .... Nimbu Chicken, Naga Jackfruit & Kashmiri Prawns. .... quite a filling starters. Tandoori Prawns.... black pepper coated prawns, cooked in tandoor & served with mint labaneh. .... it was delish. & last starter was Chicken momos .... the only one which was not up to the mark ... was just okay for us.
From the mains...... we tried their ... Deccan Chicken Biryani.... a perfect biryani. ... served with raita. Delhi 6 Chicken.... as we belong to Delhi, we can easily relate to this name ... actually Delhi 6 is the name given to Old Delhi ... & it’s famous for all the authentic & delicious food corners. ... this particular dish was inspired by the same & was rally scrumptious. Mutton Kosha..... slow cooked caramelized lamb... really recommendable. Along with their variety of naan & Paratha ... yummmmm
From the drinks, they served us some of their favorite Mojitos.. .... lime mint Mojito, watermelon Mojito, Peach Mojito & Passion fruit Mojito.... all were refreshing ... only the lemon mint was a bit more tangy.
Now ...... the star of the evening .. DESSERTS ... they served us the fresh.... hot & crispy Jalebi with Rabri ... it was the best ... I wish they would have served us the Rabri a bit more. 😍😍
To sum it all .... Mohalla is a recommendable place ... which serves you the Indian Authentic food with a big of twist ... it focuses much more on presentation & healthy cooking rather than all the fancy technology which sometimes destroys the flavors of the food.
Thanks a lot to White Label for introducing us to this amazing place & thanks to the entire team of Mohalla for hosting us. We are definitely going...
Read moreHave you been to Mohalla yet? It’s one of the newest additions to the eateries located in Dubai Design District, and truly lives up to its name that translates as “neighborhood” in Hindi. This one transports you into the bustling streets of India, and spoils you with a variety of flavors too irresistible to miss. Honestly, it’s very seldom that I go to this side of the city, mainly because it’s located far from where I work, but I was really very happy to see how busy the place was on a Saturday afternoon when I did happen to drive down there. I, along with a friend, went for an early lunch so it was around 2 o’clock when we arrived and the place was already 80% occupied with just two vacant tables, one of which was reserved for us. Imagine how glad I was to have made a prior reservation! The staff of Mohalla was extremely courteous; we were greeted by a gorgeous girl, Aditi, who assisted us with the menu as there were some new additions on it. Moreover, as this was our first time dining at Mohalla, I wanted to play safe and decided to order some basic starters, which were namely Chilli Baby Corns, Prawns Poha and Prawn Chop Suey. All of these three sounded very interesting and were listed as their new additions, and each one of them blew my mind away! Anyone who knows me closely knows that I am a corn addict, and literally I had never had such delicious Chili Baby Corns in my life at any Indian Chinese place ever! I’d therefore highly recommend this small bite to all corn lovers. The Prawn Chop Suey too was a very soulful dish. The balance between sweet and sourness of the Chop Suey gravy and the quantity of prawns, everything was perfect and absolutely worth every penny. We also got to try the Sour Mango Wings which were served as a very good portion. The pricing was pretty decent too, so if you like raw mangoes do go for it. Moving on, we were already so full with starters/appetizers by the time it was time to order main courses, so we opted for only two dishes that were Mutton Biryani and Prawn Curry. Both arrived as generous serving and very different than the other. The Prawn Curry was served with glass noodles which we found to be absolutely brilliant, while the mutton meat of the aromatic biryani was so tender that we didn’t have to make a lot of efforts to break it off the bone. To end the hearty meal on a sweet note, we had some Kulfi with Mango, which turned out to be yet another delightful offering at Mohalla. So, overall it was a very pleasant dining experience and I cannot wait to be back again to treat myself to more items from their delectable Indian Chinese menu. The restaurant is open 7 days a week and they start operations at noon till late in the night. I’d advise to make reservations whenever you plan to go, and don’t forget to share your experience with me after...
Read moreWe recently visited Mohalla, a wonderful spot that celebrates the spirit of the Community Neighborhood through authentic Indian street food and regional specialties. The dishes not only capture the vibrant flavors of India but also offer unique regional recipes you might not find elsewhere. The atmosphere is modern yet inviting, with a stylish design featuring concrete floors, high ceilings, and beautiful ethnic tapestries that create a warm, comfortable ambiance. We started with the Avocado Papdi Chaat, a spicy guacamole served on Indian whole wheat crackers—an excellent appetizer. The Bengali Sorshe Dum Aloo with baby potatoes was flavorful, blending sour, spicy, creamy, and umami notes perfectly. The Guncha-e-phool Gobhi, similar to Indo-Chinese-style cauliflower, paired well with the other dishes. The Nimona Paneer, stuffed with cashews and peas, offered a tasty twist on traditional paneer. Surprisingly, I loved the Kale Pakoda Salad with kale, avocado, and tamarind—despite usually not being a kale fan, I found this dish fantastic. The Butter Shrimp was also a highlight—juicy jumbo prawns in a rich, garlicky butter sauce with peanut pesto that was incredibly delicious. For mains, we tried two regional specialties: Matka Murgh and Champaran Mutton, both served in clay pots and presented at the table. The Champaran Mutton had a deep, robust flavor with a thick, layered gravy infused with green chilies and herbs—an authentic taste of Bihari cuisine. The tender chicken kebab, served with a tzatziki-style yogurt, complemented the meal perfectly, especially alongside their garlic naan. Even with all the savory dishes, we couldn’t resist desserts. The Mava Cake with Coffee Ice Cream was rustic and nutty, just the right sweetness. We also enjoyed crunchy Jalebi with Rabdi, refreshing Kulfi with Falooda, and Gulab Jamun with Ice Cream—each dish was delicious and satisfying. Service here is excellent without being obtrusive, and overall, Mohalla offers a fantastic culinary experience with a focus on regional Indian flavors and street food, presented in a modern, welcoming setting. Highly recommended for anyone eager to explore authentic Indian cuisine with a...
