I have visited Sfumato last night and I had a pleasant and enjoyable experience. While stepping into the restaurant, the warm and inviting ambiance set the perfect tone for a delightful evening. The restaurant's charming interior added to the overall dining experience, creating an atmosphere that was both sophisticated and cozy.
Now, let me dive into the dishes and mocktails:
Home made cabbage sourdough bread - Rating: 9/10 The bread looked freshly baked. The crusty exterior left me yearning for more. Made to perfection.
Cauliflower risotto with caviar and scallop - Rating: 8.5/10 Well balanced and enjoyable dish.
Eggplant carpaccio with spicy peanut sauce and caramelized pine nuts - Rating: 8.5/10 An unexpected delightful combo of spicy sweet and savory.
Green salad and avocado with asparagus pistachio sauce - Rating: 7.5/10 Was nice but would prefer if it had a little bit more of the sauce for flavor.
Baked Carrot with almond ricotta passion fruit - Rating: 7 I felt the ricotta cheese and the passion fruit flavor was a bit too light. Would prefer a little more to balance the dish.
Octopus and tomato fondant - Rating: 7/10 well-prepared, but they lacked the wow factor compared to other dishes. Nonetheless it was a good dish.
Sea bass ceviche with cucumber avocado gazpacho - Rating: 7.5/10 Nice twist to this classic dish but lacks the tanginess of the classic ceviche.
Sweet potato gnocchi with hazelnut - Rating: 8/10 The pillowy-soft sweet potato gnocchi bathed in a hazelnut-infused sauce was a comforting and flavorful choice.
Watermelon, feta, olives, and greens (sliced spinach) - Rating: 6/10 The combination of watermelon, feta, olives, and greens was refreshing, but the flavors didn't fully come together as I had hoped.
Jerusalem artichoke cream soup with scallop and truffle - Rating: 9/10 Was a delightful surprise, and the perfectly seared scallop and truffle complemented it superbly. One of the best dishes.
Salmon tartare with apple, cucumber jelly, horseradish, and labneh - Rating: 6.5/10 Interesting blend of flavors, but I felt the salmon flavor has overridden all other flavors. Wished it to be a bit less fishy.
Rib eye | blackcurrant jus - Rating: 8.5/10 The rib eye paired with a flavorful blackcurrant jus was a carnivorous delight. The quality of the beef is superb.
Beef tenderloin | potato gratin celeriac espuma - Rating: 8.5/10 The tender beef tenderloin and the creamy potato gratin with celeriac espuma made for a satisfying and hearty main course.
Chicken | mushroom demi-glacé | morels - Rating: 8/10 The tender chicken served with a rich mushroom demi-glacé and morels was a comforting dish, the chicken was very juicy and the mushrooms added umami to the dish. Perfect for poultry enthusiasts.
Caramel Cauliflower - Rating: 8.5/10 The caramel cauliflower with its sweet and savory glaze was an unexpectedly delightful vegetarian option.
Rubarb Labnah - Rating: 8.5/10 The refreshing rubarb labnah dessert offered a delightful balance of sweet and tangy flavors. Loved the dish but would have loved it more if the labneh ice cream had a bit more flavor.
Cocoa Opalina - Rating: 9/10 The cocoa opalina dessert was a chocolate lover's dream come true. The twist of having mushroom ice cream made the dish very unique and added a flavor layering the was a surprise to our taste buds.
Mocktails:
Cinquantacinque - Rating: 9/10
Trenta quattro - Rating: 8/10
In conclusion, my experience was very pleasant and would definitely add the restaurant for a revisit specially that a new menu will be introduced. Will be looking forward for the chef to...
Read moreMy second visit to SFUMATO. The name is a type of Renaissance painting technique that softens the transition between colours. The restaurant is headed up by Ukranian chef Alena Solodovichenko who used to work in Moscow’s Grand Cafe Dr. Zhivago. Chef Alena is also an author of a recipe book, Miss Varenichnaya. The menu centres around locally sourced produce and traditional family recipes, with focus on vegetables. Classic dishes come with a twist (cauliflower risotto) for example. My first visit was not appealing as it was marred by the confines of a constrained business lunch menu. The full dinner menu with a commendable expansion of choices promises a more elaborate and gratifying dining experience. The dishes are simple yet creative and tasteful. Chef Alena has managed to turn my perspective in a positive way. To my taste the flavors present themselves rather delicately. In a region that bears the imprint of cuisines, such as the Arabic and Indian gastronomies, with their tendency to strong flavours, a slight elevation in flavor may be warranted. The essence of culinary offerings, though pleasant, yearns for a gentle augmentation, allowing them to harmonize more prominently with the profiles associated with the esteemed locale. Recommended dishes: The caviar paired with cauliflower and the Eggplant carpaccio. Desserts include rhubarb with strawberry and the vegan dish apple with coconut which was surprisingly tasteful. In my view the desserts need a chocolate creation that truly satiates one's longing for sweetness. Overall rating is...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of having my breakfast at Sfumato Restaurant in Dubai, and I must say, it was an experience to remember! The atmosphere was welcoming and vibrant, making it the perfect spot for a leisurely breakfast with family. We ordered the avocado toast, a salmon bowl, and some delectable poached eggs. Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor! The avocado toast was perfectly creamy with just the right amount of seasoning, while the salmon bowl offered a delightful mix of fresh ingredients that left us wanting more. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection, with that ideal runny yolk that complemented everything beautifully. The service and welcoming of staff are the TOP!! However, the highlight of our visit was definitely the kids' cooking classes! My children had an absolute blast learning how to make pizza. The staff was incredibly engaging and patient, guiding them through each step of the process. It was wonderful to see their creativity come alive as they customized their pizzas with all sorts of toppings. The joy on their faces as they tasted their creations afterward was absolutely priceless!
Overall, our experience at Sfumato was delightful. Not only did we enjoy delicious food, but we also created unforgettable memories through the cooking class. I highly recommend this restaurant for both its fantastic breakfast offerings and its fun, interactive activities for children. We will definitely be...
