Cuisine: Afghani and Peshawari
Ratings: 7/10 (Must try for Afghani food/ Meat lovers)
Since we are doing a culinary world tour in Dubai, now it is time to visit Afghanistan. Wakha what do you offer?
The Good: As they proclaim they actually serve fresh meat and cook it to perfection. We tried their famous Shinwari dry meat and the Karahi gravy. Both were perfect. (You order by weight half kg or one kg). They serve food in traditional pots and glasses (The bronze-looking type) There are options for traditional seating arrangements or normal tables, you can opt for any of those. The Lassi was great as well
The Bad: This place looks a little cramped up for space. Also as the food is freshly made, expect some waiting time while your stomach is churning due to the delicious smell of food.
The WoW Factor: Their meat is delicious and flavorful. The gravies and naans were great too. Perfect afghani.
Money Matters: This is a place between budget and fine dining. Worth the money. (50-80 AED per pax)
The 5-Point Experience: Great food. Made as advertised and you will enjoy every bit of it. Go for meat over chicken and order in advance (half an hour) before you arrive there so you don't have to wait for too long. (They will start preparing your food if you order in advance)
My Verdict: Come here if you love some well-cooked Afghani dishes, or some good...
Read moreWorst experience ever! Had heard good things about this restaurant from many folks so decided to give it a try at their location in Ghusais. I walked in around 10:20pm, they had only one free table which was next to the bathroom, so we asked to switch to another. That took 10 minutes. We placed our order around 10:30 and the server said it would take time, which I said ok - thinking maybe it would take 20 minutes or so. After 30 minutes there was still no sign of our order, except our plate with a bunch of salad that was laughable. Mind you, other affordable Afghani restaurants even serve soups with Salad. We could see people who came after us, being served the food while we were still waiting. Left the restaurant because I was so upset, because they still didn’t have our food ready after almost 40 minutes!!! A few questions to the restaurant management: How long do your customers have to wait for a single mini platter? Note that we were only two people. Do you discriminate based on the number of people placing the order? So customers with more head count and number of orders are given priority regardless of who placed it first? Would it cost more if you hired a restaurant manager?
It’s 11:30pm, I am here at Kabab Al Afghan. Food arrived in 10minutes exactly as the server said. This is...
Read more!!!!THEY SERVE COCKROACHES !!!!! I used to be a regular patron of this establishment, but my recent experience was so appalling that I will never return. The staff has become incredibly lazy and arrogant, with many sleeping during regular operating hours. This lackadaisical attitude extended to the food itself.
We ordered the Lamb Chops and Wakha platter, only to discover a large, half-alive cockroach nestled in the bowl. This discovery was utterly repulsive and nearly made me vomit. To make matters worse, the staff nonchalantly replaced the chops and insisted we continue our meal.
This incident highlights a serious hygiene problem at the restaurant. Serving food contaminated with insects is unacceptable and raises concerns about the overall cleanliness of the kitchen. The fact that the staff didn't even check the bowl before presenting it to us further underscores the lack of attention to detail and disregard for customer safety.
I consider myself fortunate to have avoided consuming the cockroach. Had it been hidden in a curry or another dish, it could have gone undetected and resulted in illness. The owner should be ashamed of themselves for serving such filthy food to their customers. My experience serves as a stark warning to others who may consider patronizing this...
