I’m a big fan of the Rosemount branch so was excited to try this one on Union Terrace. I assumed it would be somewhat similar but clearly not when looking at the menu, more casual dining than fine dining. Started with the bruschetta at £8 for 2 small baguette slices topped with a handful of diced tomatoes and little in the way of seasoning. One of the poorest bruschetta I’ve ever had whilst being one of the most expensive. Genuinely you’d get better at Frankie & Bennies. A ridiculous price to charge for what is served. Main course, went for the Chilli at £17. There’s not really any way to elegantly plate a bowl of Chilli and rice but the sauce splatters up the sides of the plate indicated a chef that clearly couldn’t be bothered trying. Whoever ordered the tortilla chips, jarred salsa and guacamole also couldn’t be bothered speccing something that could even give the illusion of being made in house. Sub-Old El Paso quality. The Chilli itself was accordingly bland and insipid. Finished with the Sticky Toffee Pudding which was tasty enough but you’ll find better in dozens of other restaurants in the city. Overall a very disappointing experience. They’re obviously aiming at a different market to their original restaurant and a lower price point. It still ends up being over priced and generally just lacking in effort (seriously, having that cheap gloopy salsa anywhere near their kitchen is the very definition of “f-it that’ll do”). Somewhere like Slains Castle does similar standard of food for half the price. Service was...
Read moreHere for a Christmas dinner with work, a big ish group but would put me off coming back even just two of us. Food very disappointing - starter of smoked salmon came with a bagel that was brick hard, tasteless and inedible. Those having prawn cocktail had a similar bread experience, both not at all fresh. The main course of the beef blade steak pie was the worst thing I’ve eaten in a long time. So overcooked could barely cut it let alone chew and utterly tasteless. No gravy but asked for extra sauce and was given a soup bowl of it, as if they already knew it was bad. For dessert I had cheese, the enormous pot of chutney was by far the biggest thing on the plate. Service was ok, we had to ask for more wine a few times rather than being asked and attention to detail lacked. Not much of an atmosphere and definitely not festive. We had booked Vovem and scrambled around to find somewhere afterwards, just a pity it was here as dampened our...
Read moreThe service was great, really lovely people serving us and were attentive. Food and drinks were served quickly, though we were there are a relatively quiet time in the evening. Sadly the food was a big disappointment. I had beef ragu parpadelle pasta and the pasta was overcooked, beef was quite fatty and the sauce was bland and thin. It was an enormous portion as well, which normally I wouldn't complain about but obviously it didn't taste great and my friends portions were tiny in comparison! They said they're food was 'alright' so I'd say probably not worth the price given the small portion sizes. On the plus side the sticky toffee pudding was good! Definitely not in a rush to go back. I've seen some reviews that praise the food and it seems to be the loaded fries, burgers that they had so maybe the chef is better at that kind of thing. Perhaps the menu needs to be adjusted, made smaller to ensure everything is to a...
