The Archibald Simpson is an old favourite. It has been a key part of Aberdeen for a long time. Good food, quick and cheerful service, and a reasonable selection of real ale.

It has lost its shine a little recently however, the menu has lost some traditional pub dishes and I find it more difficult to select what I want. No steak pie for instance, no chilli and fairly limited desserts.

More annoyingly, in my recent visit, no coffee as they had run out of milk - before 6 in the evening.

Still worth a visit, but not quite as often as before...

I don't seem to be able to do a new review, so here's an update today a year or so later. Still a place I like to go, still a mix of pleasure and frustration. Mediocre service today, some longer than usual waits at the bar. New menu, but still unavailability, we both wanted salads and neither of them were available.

On the up side, a decent beer, a porter North Point, from Orkney brewery, which is one of my favourite breweries.

We've been picking some of the small plates occasionally, rather than a main course, with Nachos being a favourite. We've had it now about 8-10 times in different Wetherspoons and this is the best presented it has ever been, by some margin -...

Im a young single female who was dining alone. After ordering a meal with hot chocolate I discovered the hot drink machine was broken as I heard a young boy telling his Dad he couldn’t get it to work, I informed a male bartender that myself and young lad were unable to get our drinks - he rudely told me it was none of his business and to speak to the manager then walked away. I was quite upset by this but did as he said.

And the manager proceeded to tell me that even though the machine was broken and only filling half way up, that this was fine and I was being a pest.

So I sat down to finish my meal with tears in my eyes, then a 3rd member of staff came up to my table while I had a mouth full of food to verbally abuse me. I had to ask him to leave and to please let me finish my food which I had already paid for. The said members of staff continued to stare at me until I left which made me feel intimidated beyond words.

To be treated like this by 3 separate members of staff is abhorrent and they should be ashamed of themselves, I can’t help but think if I were a 6ft 200 pound man i might of been treated with an...

Highlight: Fantastic building (old bank) like many other Wetherspoon pubs but could do with a little sprucing. Lowlights: Very poor customer service. Waited over 20 mins to be served breakfast when the pub was very quiet. When I approached the bar to ask about the delay I was greeted, as were the three people waiting in front of me, with a gruff "Yip". Not a smiley "What can I get you" or "how can I help you". When I explained I'd been waiting over 20 minutes there was no "I'm very sorry" or offer of explanation, just "Your next on the list". The food then arrived cold with an undercooked egg. There's a lot of work required on customer service in this place and I'd encourage the management or area management to have a close look at the way in which customers are looked after. I now understand why my friends refuse to use this pub.

I liked this branch of Wetherspoons, it's in another renovated building, I really liked the way it's done. I wish I'd had time to stay longer. The space, there's one big room, with another longer room running along side it. There is a third room running off at right angles. They're all full of tables and most were occupied on a Thursday lunchtime. Service was quick, (breaded scampi snack) and a couple of lattes finished off what was too short a visit. A note about parking, this is a city centre 'spoons, so there's not much parking available. Not that I saw. Just a small amount of on street parking.
