Green Dragon — Restaurant in Ashfield

Went here today for sunday lunch with family for the first time in over 10yrs, was sad to see on arrival that the decor was still the same, the wood floors although maybe mopped they had diffently not been scrubbed at any time, and the very loud country and western music didnt really make it any more appealing, we ended up asking to have the music turned down we couldnt hear each other over the table, it was turned down but not enough. We all ordered sunday lunch, and it was quick to come out, food LOOKED nice, but we found that the vegetables were barely cooked something we all commented on to each other. There was an over riding very strong pepper taste, my mouth was burning as was my sister in law's which we discovered was the gravy, its wasnt very pleasant. Everyone had finished their meal except me when a young man came to clear the table, I was still eating, my husband told the young man that I was still eating and he just stood there waiting and then took the hint. Visited here for the first time today as we were nearby and we needed a dog friendly place for lunch. I have to say the pub itself is really nice, the decor is lovely and the atmosphere is very welcoming. We had a lovely chat with a couple of locals and you can just see it’s a friendly place. The food we ordered was very obviously fresh and “homemade” rather than the frozen stuff from most chain pub restaurants. The burgers were so tasty, the bbq pulled pork was delicious, coleslaw was perfect and the skin on fries are to die for! I have always loved this pub and the new owners seem to nailing it! I went there today with my senior Dad. The lady on Security was absolutely outstanding! She helped my Dad out of the Taxi and helped us get over the road when it came to leaving. Whoever you are, I want to say a huge thank you! Your customer service was above and beyond!!!
