Amici — Restaurant in Ashford

I'm sorry but this is going to be a bit of a 'half and half' review. Went to the restaurant for our wedding anniversary. Nice interior and seated, no problem.

Thought I'd treat myself to a pint of Moretti, and at £7 a pop was expecting great things. Unfortunately it was luke warm and served in an ordinary pint glass: not a great 1st impresson. The beer tasted very average (not seven quid's worth), but they happily exchanged for a pint of Curious Brew which came in a lovely glass with matching ice cool condensation running down the side: delicious. As an aside, I know my beers and Moretti is one of the best - apart from it being served warm in the wrong glass, it tasted watered down and not the usual strength I'd had before.

Ok onto the menu. I'm vegetarian and the disappointment set in on examination of the menu: very little on there, and nothing I fancied. I opted for 2 starters, and as I ordered them - explaining I couldn't find anything in the mains - I was presented with a separate vegetarian menu! Now come on, vegetarianism isn't the 'oddity' it once used to be and surely in this day and age all the food should be on the main menu, or at least hand out the vege menu with the main menu when the customer enters the restaurant (not rocket-science that one!).

Ok found something on the separate menu and ordered that. Ok food came and it was good to be fair. A bit of a modern take on the Italian food I'm used to, but that's a compliment anyway.

Regarding the table service: we hadn't ordered any wine or opted for starters, but the staff didn't take away the starting utensils or wine glasses and so the table remained cluttered all the way through the meal.

The toilets were clean (one toilet for entire restaurant), but there were some high chairs stowed inside the toilet, which I though not particularly savoury as some kid would be eating at one of those if they were needed.

My family and I enjoyed a really exquisite dinner here. Although it was a busy Saturday night the service was exemplary. Not rushed, friendly and considerate. The menu boasts an impressive array of dishes showcasing all the main proteins, and a robust selection of red, white and sparkling wines. For me, the real standout draw for this restaurant is the mouthwatering choice of seafood dishes! I ordered the Branzino gamberi e Capesante (sea bass) and arrived in good time with attractive presentation and perfect temperature. A delicious and Immensely enjoyable dish. My daughter wanted to go to Kaspa’s for pudding so I can’t comment on the dessert selection! The service we received was perfect, and the waiting staff were knowledgable when recommending drinks and dishes to other diners. Attentive and accommodating, thank you! A genuine fine dining experience in a run down town overrun with fast food. Don’t let the prices put you off. I was very pleasantly surprised when our bill arrived. Perfect, traditional but up to date, Italian restaurant for lunch and dinner

Been to this restaurant many times now and every time it's been amazing i had lunch here, i chose the Tagliatelle Nero off the main menu which was amazing, very tasty which i would recommend, the meal was perfect my friend i was with had the Linguine off the lunch set menu which he said was amazing too and also a very good deal coming off the lunch menu coming with a drink included this is a traditional but up to date genuine Italian restaurant which is decorated nicely and is the perfect place for many types of meals wether being a date, or a place to go with family or for birthday the service is also perfect every time i've been, for lunch the other day i was served by Kelsey and Elliot who were quick and very helpful, being very professional but also friendly every time i've been the food is always amazing and i have had a variety of of different meals for example, fish meals, pasta dishes and meat dishes and they are always been very tasty and cooked to perfection never had a bad experience at amici The best...
