Waka Asian Fusion — Restaurant in Belfast

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had — avoid at all costs.

I ordered food from this restaurant for the first time, costing £35 — which is fairly steep for a local Chinese takeaway. When I got home and plated everything up, I was really disappointed. The food was poor quality, had barely any flavour, and the sauces were incredibly watered down.

I called the restaurant to express my concerns and requested a refund, as the meal just wasn't edible. I was told to come back to resolve it. However, when I arrived, I was met with hostility from someone who appeared to be the manager. I tried to calmly explain the issue, but they immediately became aggressive and dismissive.

They eventually put £20 in front of me, refusing to refund the full amount because we had “touched the food” — even though all we had were two spring rolls and a small spoonful of rice between two people. When I tried to speak further, I was interrupted, shouted at, and even asked if I spoke English. I was then told to leave the premises.

What shocked me most wasn’t even the food — it was the way I was treated. I’ve never been spoken to like that in my life. I felt belittled and humiliated simply for making a polite complaint. They even threatened to call the police, claiming they “deal with this all the time,” but also said I was the first person who had ever complained — which is a contradiction in itself.

I left in disbelief and honestly shaken by the whole experience.

I recently visited Waka and unfortunately, it was a complete letdown. The troubles began with the staff member who not only overcharged me for my drink but also entered it incorrectly in the system. This mistake was only revealed when I heard my order number called out even though we ordered table service, forcing me to retrieve it myself.

To add insult to injury, when I finally received my order, the food was wrapped like a delivery meaning we had to unwrap it all at our table and the chips were lukewarm at best. Adding to the chaos, my friend's order was completely wrong; he requested noodles but was given rice instead.

The state of the restaurant was equally dismal, with dust accumulating everywhere and a messy floor that reflected a lack of cleanliness. Needless to say, this experience was highly disappointing, and I have no intentions...

I don’t know how this place has a 4.4 rating. A BUG WAS FOUND IN MY PARTNERS FOOD and when they brought the food back and discreetly informed the staff one of the staff members became verbally abusive and actually mocked my partner and her mother! This woman with glasses should be ashamed of herself, and she actually had the cheek to say to my partner “people like you are ruining small businesses”, again the staff where informed very discreetly, the staff member was the one who caused a scene. Absolute disgrace! I don’t believe this reflects on the entire staff but solely this individual. Reading older reviews there was also a fly found in someone else’s food so this is clearly an ongoing issue! Waka sort your health and safety out, and sort that staff member.
