Synge & Byrne Boucher Road — Restaurant in Belfast

Had lunch yesterday and what I had was enjoyable, prices were fair and plenty of seating. However my partner is very allergic to mushrooms and is careful when out and deciding what to eat. She opted for a pie with steak filling. All was fine until she felt her lips and fingers tingle...all to soon realise there were mushrooms in the pie filling, this was not made clear on the info sign. On approaching a member of staff about this the reply was...we don't have room to write all ingredients down...wrong answer!!!! Mistakes can happen but this should not have happened...perhaps get a bigger piece of card and include everything in pie filling etc. I would have over looked this if the staff had of been apologetic or concerned but this wasn't the case. Positively a very clean atmospheric eating establishment but don't leave the little things out as one day it could prove fatal...I like to review everywhere I go and I believe on being fair. Not a good experience yesterday. If and when we get a child-free afternoon we head to Boucher Road for shopping and usually have lunch or coffee here. The views are fantastic and the surroundings are lovely. However, when we popped in for a sandwich yesterday we were told there were no vegetarian-friendly sandwich options. However, I did manage to persuade our server to make me a cheese and onion toastie. Wish I hadn’t bothered. The (far too thick cut) bread was dry and there was so little cheese in it, it was like eating dry toast. I opted for mixed leaf salad and one with shredded red cabbage - I’ve no Idea what the flavour was.

The customer in front of us had my sandwich counted in with her purchases and the cashier got very defensive when he realised the mistake.

There were no forks and I had to ask twice - other customers were attempting to eat pies and quiches with flimsy plastic cutlery rather than allow their meals to cool while...

Ordered gluten free toasted sandwich which came with 2 side salads Came with the wrong side and the toasted sandwich was the heel of the loaf. Poor quality. I was offered coffee in return for poor meal which I declined as I had already had one. After waiting another fifteen minutes for someone to come back to me to resolve the issue, I went up to the cash desk and eventually relayed the complaint to someone else. I was eventually refunded less than half the price of the meal after a long wait . Would have been a more positive experience had someone dealt with it swiftly instead of waiting in vain for someone to come back to the table and resolve it. Will not be back . Very hit and miss if you’re ordering a gluten free toastie as it depends on how much effort the person at the time...
