For our anniversary dinner, my partner and I decided to celebrate at Bank in Birmingham. While the food was excellent, we had a mixed experience with the hospitality that left us with some reservations. To begin with, the doorman greeted us with condescending looks as we approached the entrance, despite having reservations. Once inside, the reception was a bit cold, with one staff member smiling and attending to our reservation details while another seemed aloof and unwelcoming. Upon being seated, our server didn't exactly exude warmth either. Their attitude was a bit sullen, and they lacked the friendly demeanor that one would hope for in a fine dining establishment. Nevertheless, we proceeded to order red wine, venison, and monkfish. The monkfish dish was a disappointment as it turned out rubbery and lacked the expected flavor. Unfortunately, our hunger got the better of us, and we ended up finishing both dishes despite the underwhelming taste. However, the experience took a positive turn when Simran (we think that was his name) came to collect the receipt. They openly asked for feedback, which made us feel heard and valued as customers. Simran was genuinely friendly and engaged us in conversation about our evening plans, even offering dessert options. This level of attentiveness was in stark contrast to our initial server's demeanor. We sincerely hope that all staff members receive training on diversity and inclusion to ensure that all customers are treated with equal respect and warmth. The food, especially the venison, was outstanding, and we would love to visit Bank again if assured of a more consistent and positive experience in terms of hospitality. In conclusion, Bank Birmingham offers delightful cuisine, and we commend the service provided by Simran. However, for a restaurant of this caliber, it is essential to ensure that all customers are treated with the same level of respect and hospitality. We look forward to a potential return visit in the hope of a more consistently enjoyable experience.

We booked three months in advance and we're very excited to be going back to bank for food and drinks. We were disappointed. Vegan options lacked for one of our party. And my food was sent back as I couldn't chew the roast beef dinner. It was sent back and they replaced with a sirloin steak as apparently if they sent it out again it would be the same. The sirloin was burnt and over cooked and should have been medium. At this point I was hungry, had enough and tired and just ate it but informed the manager again. I ate my food the rest of the party had finished while I was eating. They removed my main but somehow failed to give us the set menu price despite still having qualifying items ordered. It was embarrassing I didn't bother saying anymore as it felt like the occasion was ruined as it was. Chefs can't cook red meat is my conclusion as it was all like leather. Still paid £45 for the pleasure of what we had lol. I couldn't even think ordering desert or more drinks. The chicken skewers were ok but were burnt too. My son liked his cheese burger. Im not 100% sure how the staff in the restaurant dealt with it either. At one point I felt like I was arguing to make my point it wasn't me I've ordered the food before so I know how it should be and I know the standard red meat should be cooked to. I could have cooked it better at home. Just disappointing and after dinning here for 10 years I think im done coming back. At one point I was told they have never done a lamb dinner which I know they had at one point for a long time. Just a really weird experience and weird customer service didn't feel connected and food wasn't even average. Hope you guys find your feet again and things improve for you and the experience for customers.

I visited here for Mother’s Day as I’d been wanting to try this place out due to its prime location. Upon arrival, the staff were warm and friendly, and we had a short waiting time due to booking in advance. We were given a lovely table overlooking the canal, and the decor was really warm and vibrant. We sat down, and although our waiter tried his best and was really friendly, he could have done with more training. He did not know how to take our order or put it through on the tablets they were using. He did try his best, but it really reflects badly on the business, especially since it's a high-end restaurant. For starters, we ordered oysters and sourdough bread. The sourdough was really poor in my opinion and not warm, but the oysters were nice and the starters were prompt. Mains took so long to come out; I understand it may have been busy; however, for the kind of prices being asked, you would expect a certain standard. While waiting, we asked for crayons with our children’s activity pack three times. In the end, we were given a black biro pen by a waitress who has black hair 😂, and she was really serious and a little rude. When my cod came, it was lovely, but it was ridged with bones! The last thing I want to be doing is picking bones out of my fish. It wasn’t a one-off; there were loads! Nevertheless, the flavour was great. We ordered a kid's dessert but had to cancel it because we had been there for over two hours. Overall, it was a poor experience, and I was really disappointed as I was anticipating this place.

First time to this restaurant, which disappointed. Thought this was a high end restaurant in Brindley Place, but was of low standard, they allow youngsters to come in wearing t-shirts and jogging pants, which certainly made it more of a McDonalds feel. Also hired staff, who did not have a clue and aggressive managers who if you complained about the food being cold, would not acknowledge it and want to use aggressive tactics like security to kick you out. Not the kind of valentines experience, both myself and my wife wanted. So avoid this restaurant like the plague. Also way overcharged for champagne x 4 times the price you can buy in the shop. As for live music, it was merely 80's dance music played from a cd, nothing special. So plenty of lies from a restaurant in the city centre, which serves to everyone, probably even the homeless! Also still felt hungry and had to order more food from a takeaway, that's how small the portions were, from the Bank! Never again visit this rip off place!

Update 15/02/2025 - Got the usual oblivious owner response to my review. If smart casual is t-shirt and jogging pants, then this is not a place that should be in the city centre, but somewhere else. When you spend over £100 on a special occasion like Valentines and make the effort of dressing up, you don't expect to see other diners in t-shirt and jogging pants! As for any aggression, wholly dispute this, there was more aggression from the manager, not listening to mine and my wife's concerns about the food given and we have every right to complain about this. Because we felt we were not heard, the situation was not great for us and we were both happy to leave. If only restaurants would take on criticism and use it in a way to improve, then there would not be so many 1 star reviews for the Bank. I still stand by that this was more of a McDonalds experience, not a fine dining one you would ultimately expect.

Update 16/02/2025 - MY WIFE HAS GOT FOOD POISIONING TODAY FROM THE FOOD EATEN AT THE BANK RESTAURANT. DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR, AVOID, AVOID, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! IT HAS A CONVEYER BELT MENTALITY TOO, PACK THE RESTAURANT TO THE RAFTERS, WITH ALL ENSUNDRY, AND COOK FROZEN FOOD, IN THE MICROWAVE AND PRETEND, THIS IS FINE DINING. THEN CHARGE AN EXTORTIONATE AMOUNT FOR IT! THEN USE BULLDOG MANAGERS TO COMPLETELY DENY ANY WRONDOINGS! THERE ARE FAR BETTER PLACES OUT THERE!

Update 22/02/2025 - NOW WE FIND OUT MY WIFE HAS NOROVIRUS FROM EATING THE RAW FISH FROM THE RESTAURANT, WHICH I HAVE TOO, SO WHAT A BAD VALENTINES DAY THIS HAS ENDED UP BEING. CURRENTLY IN BED RECOVERING!!! THIS RESTAURANT DOES NOT RESPOND TO ANY NEGATIVITY AND WILL NOT EVEN APOLOGISE, NO DECENCY WHATSOEVER. AGAIN WILL REITERATE AVOID, IF YOU DON'T WANT FOOD POISONING AND NOROVIRUS!! BANK RESTAURANT NOW REPORTED TO SOLIHULL AND BIRMINGHAM COUNCILS TO INVESTIGATE FOOD HYGIENE STANDARDS THERE. THIS IS A SERIOUS HYGIENE ISSUE NOT TO BE...

HORRIBLE SERVICE AND CONFRONTATIONAL, RUDE MANAGER

I went here on Saturday 29th July 2023 for a brunch with friend at around 4:20pm.

I’m going to layout this experience in points because it’s so disappointing on many levels.

When our food arrived my lobster was lukewarm and my friend who is pregnant, her food was cold, she ordered spring rolls, Mac and cheese and skewers from the starters menu. The rye toast for Devonshire crab was burnt.

I also had steak but when my food was brought out no one gave me a steak knife, I had ask for one.

No one came to check on us, at any point during the meal. Tbh I ate because I was hungry but the experience was already off putting.

When we finally managed to flag down a manager, my friend made a complaint to him about her food. I had decided since I ate my lobster and steak I wouldn’t complain. The first thing out of the manager’s mouth was why didn’t we complain sooner. He then took the food and left the table, no apology, no nothing. A whole 30 mins went by and when we noticed he wasn’t coming back we flagged down another one of the staff for our bill.

When the bill came it still had all the items on it that the manager took away.we then had to contact another server and then another manager who finally came over with an accurate bill and an apology. At this point my friend has been in tears and the people sitting next to us are mortified.

I pay the bill of £78 minus service charge cause atp that’s defo not a thing.

I made no fuss about my lukewarm lobster or the burnt bread, when I highlighted the bread to the server clearing the table he himself admitted he wouldn’t eat it but still charged me for it.

Upon leaving the manager who initially took our complaint was at the exit, he said goodbye, my friend didn’t respond to him. I mumbled goodbye, he exclaimed wow and my friend turn around and asked him what did he say? He proceeded to say he was speaking to his staff. My friend walked away, I however asked him if he was the manager that took out complaint as opposed to responding he proceeded to make fun off the way I spoke, then when I tried to calmly say to him I didn’t appreciate the service he got defensive and started say maybe Bank wasn’t the place for people like me * for context here I’m a black woman* and I knew instantly what he meant. ATP I was upset, and if I spoke to him it would’ve been an altercation, so I just left.

If I had known the end of this experience I would’ve not even bother to pay that bill because so many violations were overlooked.

To make matters worst, we went to Mellows just up the road after and had a beautiful service… I wish we went there from the get go, better food and atmosphere.

All in all I won’t be back, I went there prepared to spend over £150 for a good time as usual but instead got severely disappointed and disrespected....

Went to Bank last night 25/10/01 to celebrate our daughters 20th Birthday. We went to Bank during the day to drop off her surprise birthday cake. My husband spoke to Amit the general manager, who took the cake off him and promised that he would look after us. We arrived at 6.45pm and got seated straight away. The waiter was friendly and took our drinks order, and we looked at the menu"s. We were told by the waiter that several items on the menu were not avaliable, as they had apparently ran out. Duck spring rolls, certain fish dishes, to name a few. The table was heavy with stains, not ideal. We ordered food then the drinks arrived. Starters came, I had a sharing platter with my daughter, but no plates came. We asked for more drinks at this point, and the delay was about 15 minutes, so all starters had gone. Our finished plates remained on the table for about 20 minutes, even though a waiter came and placed candles on our table ! We asked for the heater to be put on , as we were getting cold, the waiter nodded, but it was never turned on so my jacket remained on. The dishes were cleared away just before our mains came, there was a mix up with the steaks, and my risotto was luke warm, so had to go back. several minutes later it was brought back, however it had a lot of gritt in it and I can only put this down to the mushrooms not being cleaned correctly.(mushroom risotto) Drinks service was very poor indeed, but to be fair the waiters did seem busy. After our meal, we waited for our dishes to be cleaned away, and just sat chatting waiting for the cake to arrive. Then our waiter comes over with a plate with happy Birthday on it in chocolate with some honey combe sprinkled on it , singing Happy Birthday !!! NO cake. it had now become evident to our daughter that something was not quite right, and off my husband went to talk to staff. No one was aware of the cake, which shocks me, as the manager had dealt with this issue during the day. The cake eventually came, another round of happy birthday, but we just wanted to go home at this point, so it was boxed up again. Yes we complained, yes money was taken off the bill, but our daughters actual birthday meal was ruined. This is Bank, not the local carvery ! This was my first visit, although my daughter has been before, If I am honest i feel the manager was at fault not the staff, who seemed to be doing their best. But overall very poor experience, and a disappointing end to my daughters...
