My girlfriend traveled from Preston to visit me, I took her out for a lovely meal, and she wanted to get some drinks from Las lguanas, as it was close by, and they had 2 for 1. When we walked in it was busy, but we were greeted by a friendly man, he told us to sit down wherever we went, and that we will get served soon as we only wanted drinks. Are young lady came to my table and asked if we wanted drinks and food or just drinks and we told her that we only want to drinks. She was very smiley and attentive to us and told us that she will come back and take her order. We told her to take her as it was busy. She came back, took a drink order and was very polite. She brought a drinks over and my girlfriend and I were talking. We kissed at the table and after that the service went downhill. We wanted to order some shots as they did for for two. We try to get the waitresses attention. She kept looking over at us and telling us that she’ll be over in a minute we didn’t come. We waited a while, and then my girlfriend went to the bathroom, on her way there she found the waitress and told her that we wanted to order some more drinks, my girlfriend went to the bathroom and came back, and within that time, the waitress still did not come to take our drink order. Within this time, it was not as busy in the restaurant. There was only four tables, and that is including us. The waitress decided to clean dirty tables before coming to take our order. She could clearly see that we were looking at her and wanted her attention, as she kept glancing up towards us, but did not come over. I work myself in hospitality and customer service. And I understand that you have to keep the tables clean for new guests. But when there are current customers, waiting in clearly wanting your attention, you prioritise them, and not empty dirty tables. We had to ask the man that greeted us at the front to take our order. And even he was acting a little strange compared to when we first walked in. We finally got our shots and when it was time to pay the bill, we still couldn’t get their attention. When we did get hold of the man, he didn’t even look at us he just put the amount in did not ask if we wanted to split the bill or pay separately. He put the card reader in my face. I tapped it and he just walked off. He didn’t even wait to see if the payment went through, or ask how the drinks were. What made this experience worse is that there was a table beside us of two women, and they got all the staffs attention. While we couldn’t even...
Read moreI love this place. Love the colours, the music and the vibe. And the food selection is pretty great too!
But….…..it is certainly a very good job that ‘Iguanas’ scores so high in so many areas, because having come a good number of times over the last 2 years (including twice in the last 2 weeks), the service is consistently atrocious! And I do mean ATROCIOUS! Consistently. And tonight’s visit prompted me to finally ‘scribble’ this review.
To qualify my comments further, I can honestly say that the service at THIS Las Iguanas is the worst I have ever experienced in any chain restaurant by quite a long margin. I have literally stood at an empty bar (both when dining alone and also with company) every single time I’ve visited and I/we have been pretty much completely ignored for up to twenty minutes. Same applies when waiting to be seated, in the end having not even being acknowledged as staff walked back and forth past us, we seated ourselves and went on the hunt for menus.
On the previous occasion, the manager was present and apologised, asking one of the staff to please serve us. 10 minutes later, having been ignored herself, the manager returned and said that she would serve us.
Even when using the ‘DIY option’ of scanning and ordering at the table, when having a query, it proved impossible to get assistance. We literally had to follow the serving staff up to the till (more than once) to get their attention and ask for any additional items.
Just a couple of other noteworthy points for potential diners; some of the fave dishes often appear to have ‘run out’, the bottle of red wine we ordered tonight was ice cold and we had to ask if it could be popped in some warm water for a few mins - only to have to go to the bar to ask for it back before (a) it was too warm and (b) we had finished our food.
At this point in my review, it should be said that the very first time anyone has asked if everything by is okay, or if we need anything else, is Malik, who saw one of our party approaching the bar (this time for a glass of water). Well done Malik!
And it’s worth pointing out that each of these visits has been early/midweek with an absolute maximum of 15% capacity. We can only conclude that the consistently appalling service is down to the management.
A real pity, but no doubt the faithful (like me) will continue to return…..at least until something comparable opens nearby. Then Las Iguanas will HAVE TO improve; or it...
Read moreVisited here after work one evening. The restaurant was mostly empty with only 3 other tables occupied when we arrived. The manager asked about allergies and then proceeded to mumble something about a fryer and show us to our table. He did not explain that there was no table service and it was order through the QR code only. We ordered food and waited for it to arrive. One of our drinks arrived but the other never came. Food was delivered about 25 minutes after ordering, at this point we were still waiting for our other drink. When we asked the waitress it turned out it had been poured and just left on the bar. The food was disgusting. The quesadilla was soggy, the fries were undercooked and everything was generally flavourless. Throughout the entire meal there was a group of 5 people screaming, shouting and singing at the top of their lungs (baring in mind it was 4:30 on a weeknight!). They were whooping and hollering and banging on the table for the entire time we were there. After disrupting both us and the table next to us we did approached a waiter and asked him if he could have a word with the table in question. He admitted they were really loud and causing a nuisance but did not approach them and ask them to quieten down. No-one came over to ask if our food was okay, infact no one came over to check our table at all. We waited a long time for the bill as we had to try and attract a waiters attention as there was no one around. The toilets were in an absolutely disgusting state. 2 of the toilets were covered in excrement and the 3rd toilet had a broken flush. Overall disgusting level of cleanliness, poor service and awful food. There are much better Mexican restaurants in the city and we certainly...
