Well I've never been so disappointed in my life and I've frequented many restaurants in my time. We booked a table in advanced seeing as we were travelling down from South Yorkshire to see a show and would be in need of dinner beforehand. On entering we stood in the doorway waiting to be greeted and shown our table but, although it was quiet and there were plenty of staff behind the bar near the kitchen, no one seemed to bother. We asked a young woman cleaning tables who went to tell someone and then after a minute or two, I found out later it was the manager appeared and showed us to a table which we didn't quite like so we moved. I always thought the S&L was a bit more up market than Weatherspoons but it appears to operate in a similar way apart from being able to book a table?? (You either order food and drink at the bar or use an app), so I ordered at the bar and the irony is you are asked for gratuity on payment - this before eating AND having to pour your own drinks from the bottle into your glass! Well we sat down and waited for our meals. On arrival, my wife noticed omissions from her dish as per the menu description, but seeing as it was like "window dressing" garnish, she rejected the offer for it to be corrected. My meal on the other hand, was disgraceful. I wouldn't have taken it to a customer if I was the manager looking at it (see photo). The description said "a succulent chicken breast..smoothered in...". It was far from it! My first attention was brought to the blackened end to the chicken breast then to the rest of the exposed breast (which wasn't "smoothered"), which was golden brown and dry looking. I cut into it, and the thing was soo dry drinking a liver dry wouldn't have helped to swallow it!. I jestered to staff accumulated around the kitchen/bar area and attention was brought to the manager who then selected a young staff member to come over a deal with us. Because of time constraints I decided to change my order for a bacon, cheese beef burger, making sure attention was brought to my customisation of no ketchup etc on it. When it was presented onto the hotplate for service (I could see plainly from where I sat), the manager, who could have fetched it, called over the young member of staff to deliver it to me. When it arrived I asked him to wait while I checked it. The burger had ketchup applied to the bun, there was burger sauce on it too which I had also said no to and, to top it off, the bacon, cheese and beef burger was replaced by a Southern fried chicken?? This was the last straw. The lad apologised (but it should have been the manager), I was offered a refund for which I was granted, but only for my dish. The omissions on my wife's dish were disregarded. The "excuse" given was "they are doing some sort of checks in the kitchen" ??? So, the experience was shocking, and my wife and I will never be recommending or setting foot in a Slug & Lettuce ever again. P.S. I'm not sure what their policy is on vaping in their restaurant, but I couldn't help noticing a young couple sat drinking cocktails drawing on vaps during...

I visited Slug and Lettuce to celebrate my graduation on the 25th July and unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing from start to finish.

We were ignored by staff when we first arrived and waited a while to be seated. Once we were finally shown to our reserved table, I was told the manager would be over shortly to discuss a graduation offer that included a free glass of Prosecco – the manager never came to the table.

I then tried to use a free birthday cocktail voucher, but was told they didn’t have the ingredients. I suggested they just swap out the missing ones, but was told they couldn’t do that either. So as an alternative I asked if there were any cocktail offers, and the bartender told me there was a 2-for-1 deal, only for another staff member to immediately contradict that, saying it wasn’t valid until 4pm. At that point, I gave up and returned to the table with no drink, completely fed up. My partner felt bad and ended up staying at the bar to buy me a cocktail himself.

To make matters worse, I ordered a Coke to come with my meal via the QR code and it never arrived. By then, I was too annoyed to even enquire about it.

The whole visit really dampened my mood on what was supposed to be a day to celebrate my graduation/birthday.

Having worked in hospitality myself, I fully understand how busy and stressful it can get, but that’s not an excuse for poor service, lack of communication, or rudeness. The staff seemed inattentive and untrained, especially when it came to knowing what offers were actually available.

It was a real let down. They seriously need to improve their customer service and staff training before I even consider...

Visited on Easter bank hols

So, based on this experience, we recommend Sutton Coldfield Slug over Brindley Place.

Visited for drinks and food. Managed to find a table clear. Unfortunately, i came to understand why, it was a wobbly table... we hoped another would open up.

We bought cocktails but the table leaned, lukily for us only 2 split but 1 broken glass.

The attitude of the girl that was managing the floor was appalling (i assume because she was dressed differently to everyone else) I was trying to notify her of the spillage she was walking away from me.... When i could finally explain the situation, she was rude, shrugging her shoulders "you can sit anywhere free". Yeah, i know that, no where was clean! Then i asked for our drinks to be replaced She accused me of knocking my drink over "we dont replace drinks people have spilt" when i didnt even touch it, dispite me saying the table isnt stable, when i asked her to test the table she wouldn't.

In the end they replaced one of them despite them seeing that the other one was spilt too!

She didn't even clear the spillage properly. There was still some on the table and floor, health a safety!

Dont be difficult with the customer when you have unstable tables. Furthermore, accidents happen, change jobs if clearing up ice and glass is too much for you.

We finished those drinks fast on got out of there! We went across the way to the Alchemist where we received great service, food and drinks, when we tipped the hostess, she was like "are your sure?" Yes i...

And stop deleting my review!!!! Sitting drinking Friday afternoon/evening when a staff bar member came over and asked for the chairs - we said yes of course as we didn’t need them. He said no yours - move.. my husband said no.. iv just bought drinks and I’m sitting here to drink them. He went over to the bouncers and then they came over and asked him for a word.. he walked over to the door with them for a word and they grabbed him. 3 on 1.. dragged him to the floor like a rag doll.. and in that when he got up they were backing down as he was ready to start.. which at this point everyone from the table had gone over as we knew it was bang out of order… It’s disgusting how you could treat people like that and for what reason.. he had done nothing wrong whatsoever.. the 1 bouncer apologized to us and he said he didn’t know what had happened and he would try and sort it. I have since emailed you and rang - left several messages for a returned call and nothing.. I will never be coming back here.. it speaks in volumes really for what does actually happen here doesn’t it!!! Bruising to my husbands neck and skin scrape/swelling/bruising to his ankle!! Nothing will be done about this… but I would sure love to see your CCTV of how it happened so you know your staff are at fault!!! You need sacking!!!!

We visited on Monday evening and overall it wasn’t great. My friend had booked so I waited at the entrance to be seated. I was ignored for a good while with several staff blanking me. The guy who did greet me and sit me down was lovely though; super polite and friendly. There was a problem with the table (our fault) but they were quick the rectify this for us and give us a bigger spot. Once it got to ordering it when downhill. Our food arrived well before most of the drinks did. We waited at least half an hour for our first drinks. Food was incredibly disappointing, even for a chain like this. Chips were super greasy, my rare steak was medium (nearly well at the ends), my onions rings were forgotten and I paid Ā£2 extra for the most pathetic extra of calamari I’ve ever seen. To top of off, when I tried to get the attention of a guy who seemed senior to ask for a steak knife (2 of us had steak and neither was given a knife) I saw him dramatically pause his walk and roll his eyes. If we weren’t celebrating my friend I’d have complained there and then. The plates and glasses piled up, but no one was clearing the table. Eventually we cleared it ourselves by moving the plates and empties to another dirty table. 2-4-1 drinks makes this place appealing, but expect subpar food and service.
