Well I've never been so disappointed in my life and I've frequented many restaurants in my time. We booked a table in advanced seeing as we were travelling down from South Yorkshire to see a show and would be in need of dinner beforehand. On entering we stood in the doorway waiting to be greeted and shown our table but, although it was quiet and there were plenty of staff behind the bar near the kitchen, no one seemed to bother. We asked a young woman cleaning tables who went to tell someone and then after a minute or two, I found out later it was the manager appeared and showed us to a table which we didn't quite like so we moved. I always thought the S&L was a bit more up market than Weatherspoons but it appears to operate in a similar way apart from being able to book a table?? (You either order food and drink at the bar or use an app), so I ordered at the bar and the irony is you are asked for gratuity on payment - this before eating AND having to pour your own drinks from the bottle into your glass! Well we sat down and waited for our meals. On arrival, my wife noticed omissions from her dish as per the menu description, but seeing as it was like "window dressing" garnish, she rejected the offer for it to be corrected. My meal on the other hand, was disgraceful. I wouldn't have taken it to a customer if I was the manager looking at it (see photo). The description said "a succulent chicken breast..smoothered in...". It was far from it! My first attention was brought to the blackened end to the chicken breast then to the rest of the exposed breast (which wasn't "smoothered"), which was golden brown and dry looking. I cut into it, and the thing was soo dry drinking a liver dry wouldn't have helped to swallow it!. I jestered to staff accumulated around the kitchen/bar area and attention was brought to the manager who then selected a young staff member to come over a deal with us. Because of time constraints I decided to change my order for a bacon, cheese beef burger, making sure attention was brought to my customisation of no ketchup etc on it. When it was presented onto the hotplate for service (I could see plainly from where I sat), the manager, who could have fetched it, called over the young member of staff to deliver it to me. When it arrived I asked him to wait while I checked it. The burger had ketchup applied to the bun, there was burger sauce on it too which I had also said no to and, to top it off, the bacon, cheese and beef burger was replaced by a Southern fried chicken?? This was the last straw. The lad apologised (but it should have been the manager), I was offered a refund for which I was granted, but only for my dish. The omissions on my wife's dish were disregarded. The "excuse" given was "they are doing some sort of checks in the kitchen" ??? So, the experience was shocking, and my wife and I will never be recommending or setting foot in a Slug & Lettuce ever again. P.S. I'm not sure what their policy is on vaping in their restaurant, but I couldn't help noticing a young couple sat drinking cocktails drawing on vaps during...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI visited Slug and Lettuce to celebrate my graduation on the 25th July and unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing from start to finish.
We were ignored by staff when we first arrived and waited a while to be seated. Once we were finally shown to our reserved table, I was told the manager would be over shortly to discuss a graduation offer that included a free glass of Prosecco ā the manager never came to the table.
I then tried to use a free birthday cocktail voucher, but was told they didnāt have the ingredients. I suggested they just swap out the missing ones, but was told they couldnāt do that either. So as an alternative I asked if there were any cocktail offers, and the bartender told me there was a 2-for-1 deal, only for another staff member to immediately contradict that, saying it wasnāt valid until 4pm. At that point, I gave up and returned to the table with no drink, completely fed up. My partner felt bad and ended up staying at the bar to buy me a cocktail himself.
To make matters worse, I ordered a Coke to come with my meal via the QR code and it never arrived. By then, I was too annoyed to even enquire about it.
The whole visit really dampened my mood on what was supposed to be a day to celebrate my graduation/birthday.
Having worked in hospitality myself, I fully understand how busy and stressful it can get, but thatās not an excuse for poor service, lack of communication, or rudeness. The staff seemed inattentive and untrained, especially when it came to knowing what offers were actually available.
It was a real let down. They seriously need to improve their customer service and staff training before I even consider...

So, based on this experience, we recommend Sutton Coldfield Slug over Brindley Place.
Visited for drinks and food. Managed to find a table clear. Unfortunately, i came to understand why, it was a wobbly table... we hoped another would open up.
We bought cocktails but the table leaned, lukily for us only 2 split but 1 broken glass.
The attitude of the girl that was managing the floor was appalling (i assume because she was dressed differently to everyone else) I was trying to notify her of the spillage she was walking away from me.... When i could finally explain the situation, she was rude, shrugging her shoulders "you can sit anywhere free". Yeah, i know that, no where was clean! Then i asked for our drinks to be replaced She accused me of knocking my drink over "we dont replace drinks people have spilt" when i didnt even touch it, dispite me saying the table isnt stable, when i asked her to test the table she wouldn't.
In the end they replaced one of them despite them seeing that the other one was spilt too!
She didn't even clear the spillage properly. There was still some on the table and floor, health a safety!
Dont be difficult with the customer when you have unstable tables. Furthermore, accidents happen, change jobs if clearing up ice and glass is too much for you.
We finished those drinks fast on got out of there! We went across the way to the Alchemist where we received great service, food and drinks, when we tipped the hostess, she was like "are your sure?" Yes i...
