TORO's Steakhouse — Restaurant in Birmingham

I visited a couple of weeks ago. The food was excellent, and I have no complaints in that regard.

However, I did experience two key issues that affected my overall impression. Firstly, the restaurant only accepts cash payments. Although I was eventually allowed to pay via bank transfer, it was only because my friend was unable to locate a working cash machine. This lack of payment flexibility is inconvenient and could easily be resolved by accepting card payments.

Secondly—and more importantly—a waiter accidentally dropped food on me while trying to serve the table next to mine. What stood out was that he appeared more concerned about the fact that he had dropped the food than about how I was doing. He didn’t even ask if I was okay. I had to clean the food off my jacket myself and continued eating.

When it was time to pay, I brought up the incident with a staff member. Initially, he offered me a £1 discount, which I found quite insulting given what had happened. It felt like the situation wasn’t being taken seriously at all.

After I explained that the incident had been witnessed by the table next to me, the staff member changed his tone. He asked how much of a discount I wanted, stating, “I will take it off the staff member’s wages.” I found this response deeply inappropriate. I told him that no staff member should be penalised for an accident like this—rather, the responsibility lies with the business as a whole. I suggested that a more appropriate response would be to offer a proper discount or make the meal complimentary.

The discussion continued, with the staff member repeatedly stating things like, “We don’t train our staff to drop food,” as if that somehow resolved the issue. I found myself having to explain my concerns multiple times, going around in circles.

Eventually, because he was unable to determine which staff member had dropped the food—he even asked me what the person looked like—he settled on giving us an £11 discount.

So I had a very interesting but in the end, pleasant experience here.

I fancied steak so thought I'd try it out. The menu has a cool structure and a lot of options. I ordered the fillet steak med rare with rice & vegetables and my friend ordered chicken wings with chips.

The steak was cooked to absolute perfection and literally couldn't have been better and went well with the homemade peppercorn sauce I ordered with it. The vegetables had been boiled and were a little bland, could have done with some chargrilling to give a flavourful touch but the steak was so good that it really didn't matter and the rice was great but room for improvement on the veg. The chicken wings my friend ordered were good but nothing amazing, as I told him, you don't come to a steak house to order chicken wings!

The dessert was complimentary and was honestly one of the most delicious desserts I have ever tried but not sure what it was called!

The only initial issue I had here was that they refused to bring us a jug of water or glasses of tap water which caused initial aggravation however after speaking to the management who were very friendly, it turned out that this was not their decision but a policy put in place by TOROS head office. I highly urge the head office to change this policy as if it wasn't for the kindness and thorough explanation by the management of the establishment then this review would not be 5...

👥️️ This large over 100 seater halal steak house is definitely worth the visit, particularly for those sizzling steaks.

👥️️ We never been surprised how quickly the food was brought especially the steaks when the restaurant was very busy. The meat and chicken steak both were cooked to perfection, great place to eat and good atmosphere.

▪︎ Equality of Staff's 👍 ▪︎ The staff appeared to be knowledgeable about the food.👍 ▪︎ At the back it has a prayer room.👌👍 ▪︎ Has dividers for privacy. 👍 ▪︎ The place get sometimes very hot because of busy and Steak sizzling.⚠️ ▪︎ No free tap water, only bottle waters.👎 ▪︎ Looks like the place has not been decorated for a good while because of old tables, chairs, dusts and booths ripped etc.👎

The high ratings of this place wouldn't be possible without the terrific staff's and tasty steaks. Fast service and outstanding customer care is something that guests or customers note's in their good books.
