The annual visit back home isn't complete, until I've been to Ye Olde's to grab some pasties! A local staple, been around since 1887, and there's a reason for that, the patiea are pretty special.
If you're reading this, your prob from out of town, as the locals know this places open and closes early, so if you're looking to sample, try go before the lunch time rush. Even if you do go around lunch time, the queue moves quick.
On to the food, pictured here are the potatoes cakes (these are best put under the grilled at home), cheese pastie (Creamey, Cheesey & Potatoey, all at the same time), sausage roll (straight banger!), and chocolate exclars!
Staff are super friendly and helpful, when you go to order inside, the place is a little tight and can seem chaotic, but it's part of the experience and charm :)
There are quite a few things in the back kitchen, so ask the staff to see if they have what you're looking for, for example, I didn't see chocolate eclairs out front, but they did have them in the back.
Everything was delicious as usual ✅️
This was my first time sampling the eclairs, and they didn't disappoint.
For me personally, the eclair tops were slightly on the chocolately side, it would be great if Ye Olde's could trial making the eclairs with half thr chocolate on top, to balance out the overall eclair...
Read moreThis place has been trading for over a century, and how lovely it is to have a shop running for that long. With pretty little single glazed shop windows, and just enough room inside for a few customers, it oozes an atmosphere of a time almost forgotten. There are still old butchers hooks hanging from the ceiling timbers, and the decor screams of a business determined to hold on to its origins. Staff are very pleasant and inviting, and with its traditional pastie and pie recipes, you really feel that you've taken a trip back in time. A far cry, yet refreshing change from your modern day bakers .even if it's just to say you've been there, when in Bolton, you should pop in for a sandwich and a drink. This is such a rare thing nowadays to have such longstanding family businesses, I hope Bolton residents are supporting it with...
Read moreThe two stars are purely for the pasties which are nice, hard to fault them. The remaining three stars are deducted for the general attitude of some of the staff when we dealt with them recently ordering their Wednesday special on frozen products. Some of the items were missing and when bringing this to their attention were not convinced of my complaint being genuine. They could not offer a refund of £5 for the missing items and begrudgingly offered to "let us have" the missing products if we went back to collect. The fact that the event we had ordered the stuff for had been and gone was not of any concern to them. As i was stating my case for a refund the member of staff put the phone down. Despite the nice products I won't be visiting their shop again as customer service...
