Ego: A Father's Day Feast to Remember Ego Mediterranean Restaurant provided the perfect setting for a pre-Father's Day celebration with my daughter, a delightful precursor to the actual day's commitments. From start to finish, our meal was a testament to culinary excellence and impeccable service. To commence our gastronomic journey, I opted for the calamari, a choice I did not regret. Each piece was cooked to perfection, boasting a remarkable freshness and a light, superbly seasoned batter that enhanced rather than overwhelmed. The portion was judiciously sized, setting an exemplary standard for the courses to follow. My daughter, a discerning connoisseur of soups, selected the leek and potato soup of the day. Her endorsement was unequivocal; she declared it outstanding and a dish she would readily reorder, a testament to its comforting yet refined flavour. For our main courses, the standard remained exceptionally high. My Pizza Gamberoni was a triumph. The sourdough base, a hallmark of quality, was perfectly cooked, providing a delightful foundation for the generous and exceptionally fresh prawns. For those with a penchant for the briny depth of anchovies, this pizza comes highly recommended. My daughter's choice, the cod and mussels, encountered a slight hiccup with the absence of mussels. However, our waiter, Dominic, handled this with admirable grace, offering prawns as a substitute. This proved to be a serendipitous exchange, as the dish was nothing short of excellent, with the cod perfectly flaky and moist. To conclude our memorable meal, I indulged in a classic Irish coffee, a warming and satisfying end. My daughter's cherry and almond crumble with custard was equally impressive, a comforting and flavourful dessert that capped off a superb dining experience. Our evening was made all the more enjoyable by the exceptional service provided by Dominic. His attentiveness, professionalism, and genuine warmth elevated our visit from merely a meal to a truly delightful occasion. If every dining experience were graced with such a dedicated and personable server, the world of culinary exploration would undoubtedly be a more consistently pleasurable one. Ego, with its superb food and outstanding staff like Dominic, has certainly earned its place as a must-visit establishment.

Lovely looking restaurant in the centre of Lytham. Outside seating area for those warm sunny days, and a pretty large coverage inside. Décor simple but elegant, in keeping with the Mediterranean flavour. Background music sounded thin, despite a “Bose” sound system. We waited a little to be seated. As per the norm immediately asked what drinks, before we had half a chance to look at the wine list. After a 10 minute wait, told our choice of wine wasn't available, with a strange excuse given. Starters arrived more promptly, a hummus, pita and dip selection, and a tomato garlic bread. The garlic bread was burnt on the bottom, but raw in the centre of the bread. And little signs of garlic, (the restaurant did remove this off the bill) . Mains faired much better, I enjoyed the asparagus and pea risotto, just a tad undercooked, but still it was quite lovely tasting. Coffee for desert, along with their great idea for a “mini desert”, a smaller portion of, in this case, sticky toffee pudding. The coffee was near perfect. Overall, the service was a tad underwhelming, same with the starters. And the mains; decent, if not outstanding.

A nice restaurant situated just off the main street in Lytham. So lovely sitting outside in the sunshine under a canopy with glass screens protecting you from the street. Nice enough food but my partner commented that their Prawn Linguini was a little bland but loved the garlic mushrooms. My goats cheese starter with caramelised onions and beetroot chutney would have been better on a more robust bread ie. Sourdough rather than brioche as it had turned completely into a soggy mush. The courgette & sweetcorn fritters with carrot, raisin & orange salad with red pepper tapenade and pickled coriander was OK, but unfortunately nothing special, I think it just lacked abit of umph perhaps it needed to be a little more spicy for my taste but I'm sure it suits alot of people's taste. We ate off the lunchtime Prix Fixe menu which costs £17.95 for 2 courses or £21.95 for 3 and is available Mon - Sat upto 5.30pm.

We have visited ego in Shadwell so many times and never been disappointed so I booked this one to celebrate by daughters 10th and sons 3rd birthday. We were seated just next to the kitchen door that slammed shut every single time someone went through it. The front door also slammed shut and the toilet door and the cupboard doors that were under the pass storing cutlery ! Aside from that despite me adding to the booking we were 2 adults 2 children and a toddler needing a high chair ! There was no high chair at the table when we were seated ! We ordered and food was prompt I had garlic mushrooms which had a bitterness to them after the starters the mains arrived quickly and I ordered rump steak medium rare! It hadn’t been rested enough as I had to use a napkin to drain up blood from my plate never had that before. The onion rings were soggy so can’t have been freshly fried. Nobody ever asked if we wanted any more drinks etc.we decided against desserts. My daughter had a happy birthday badge on and not 1 member of the team noticed or took into account from my notes we were celebrating a birthday (when we left and called at Sainsbury’s local the man in the counter said happy birthday miss I’ve just seen your badge ! She was chuffed to bits with that ) anyway I asked for the bill after sitting g with no drinks already said we didn’t want dessert for 10 minutes ! It took a further 15 minutes and I still had to get up and go to the counter to pay. I work in the hospitality industry and in my opinion the service wasn’t good enough for an established chain such as ego my children said they wish we had gone to a green king pub instead. I didn’t tip the staff which was hard for me coming from hospitality but in all honesty they didn’t deserve a tip the best thing about this place was the decor but NOT the INTERIOR doors they need slow closers on them and cushioning on the frames because the bang of that kitchen door was horrific and a massive stamp on any atmosphere there...

  • Edited to add - after specifically being asked to email them about the review where I say we were ignored, don't you find it ironic that my email has been... ignored? I do. Anyway, don't bother with them honestly. *

What a thorough disappointment...

We were in the area after visiting the kite festival so decided to try the restaurant for a meal, and never again.

The food I actually had no issue with - it was quite nice from what we had. The drinks were good too.

However the service... well, what service really? We were constantly being ignored by near enough everyone. We waited to be acknowledged as we entered the restaurant as we had booked beforehand, and waited for quite a while before someone deemed us "worthy" of attention. We then watched them clear a dirty table for us by putting dirty dishes on every surface around them. In the meanwhile, another couple who left could be heard saying "the service wasn't good", and we really should have listened.

The person who ended up serving us looked like he wanted to be anywhere else but there at the time, and after ordering our drinks and food we did say we would like to see the dessert menu in a bit too. That time never came, as he studiously ignored us for the rest of the visit. When we eventually gave up on the idea of having dessert, we had to flag down a different lady to ask for a bill, which she did bring, but then no one bothered to bring us a card machine or ask if we were paying in cash so we sat for another 5 minutes just waiting for nothing!!! Then finally someone noticed that we were unhappy (the only decent member of staff with some personality who sadly wasn't our server. Wish he had been as he was the only personable and kind person in there) brought over the card machine so we could pay and finally forget the absolute nightmare of a night.

Long story short - never again. Staff there clearly do not care about making people...
