I came here for a pre-planned charity event which the pub was aware of for weeks in advance, it’s advertised as a ‘pub and grill’ which is why the event was being held here because we all wanted to eat. I went to order food at the bar at 7.45pm and I was told ‘the kitchen is closed’!! How can you be a pub and grill and be packed with people for an event you knew about, and the kitchen is closed at 7.45pm? I saw someone bring food to a table and asked him, is the kitchen really closed? He said yes, I’m Michael the chef and we’re really busy with all the orders so I’ve closed the kitchen because I just can’t keep up… seriously? You knew this event was happening, you were told exactly how many people would be here, and you did no planning whatsoever to cope! It’s the first time I’d visited here, and now definitely my last… if you want to eat in Lytham in the evening, or if you want to host an event, go somewhere else… because the kitchen here is only open if they’re not too busy… a complete and utter joke!
In reply to the response from the business:
If you mean by ‘drinks only’ that no food was pre-ordered by the event, that would be correct, but if you honestly think that 80+ people are going to attend a bar that serves food at 7pm, after finishing a 150 mile bike ride at 6pm, and none of them are going to order food, then you’ve either not been doing your job for very long, or you need to find another job! As for you calling me a liar in your reply… seriously? You call a customer a liar, and then ask them to come back and try you again… wow! I would say Michael was in his 30’s, with a full beard, he was running food to tables to try and catch up with the delays after he had closed the kitchen… how else would I know his name? And what possible reason would I have to lie? It wouldn’t change my review, and you confirmed in your reply that the kitchen was closed, so obviously I wasn’t lieing when I said that was I? I suggest you get some training on customer service, because you desperately need some… I can give you a quick lesson for free, the three A’s ‘acknowledge, apologise, appease’… if your reply had been ‘we’re very sorry you had a bad experience, we failed to correctly plan for the number of guests attending the event, this is not the norm for our business, please visit us again and give us an opportunity to serve you better’, then I would certainly have given you a second chance and visited again. But instead you make lame excuses for your lack of foresight and planning, and then call me a liar… what do you think the chances are of me coming back now? You’re reply, just as your service when I attended, is a joke! Your reply has done more damage to your business than...
Read moreTried this pub for lunch while on a shopping trip, and it certainly didn't disappoint! It's in a quiet and leafy corner of Lytham, just off the road leading to Lytham Hall, but only 5 minutes walk away from the busy main shopping street. Plenty of parking close by. Formerly the old railway station, it looks very Victorian on the outside, but is modernised and spacious inside, with a choice of seating and TV screens showing sport. There's a games room at one end, with a pool table and darts, and also some nice outside tables under canopies. I chose to eat inside, in a cosy corner next to the window. The staff who served me were very polite, attentive and friendly. Large menu that included brunches, grills, kebabs, sandwiches and traditional main courses. There was a separate children's menu, smaller portions for adults, vegan and gluten-free options. Ordered the posh fish pie, with carrots and broccoli. Delicious chunks of cod and salmon, and jumbo prawns in a tasty sauce, cooked to perfection! Vegetables were just right, neither too crispy nor mushy. Great choice of desserts and sundaes for afters. The lemon meringue pie with strawberries was beautifully presented and deliciously tangy. Good wine and latte too. Altogether a very satisfying lunch, and not too expensive. Would...
Read moreStopped here for a refreshing drink after a lovely day in Lytham with my wife, elderly mother in law and 8 year old daughter . Unfortunately this never happened as the incompetent staff forgot our order. After half an hour of waiting we asked a young male member of staff if he could check on our drinks. He came out 10 minutes later and bluntly said 'there is no apple juice ' Off he popped back inside. Meanwhile 3 or 4 groups of people who arrived long after us were given their drinks. After 40 minutes of waiting the same young member of staff brought our drinks, except the order was totally wrong. No apologies given so my wife went inside for a refund and we left the premises. Terrible service and they really need a kick up the backside in training their staff. No people...
