I visited here for the first time with a large party of people for afternoon tea. The building is full of character, very old but so well decorated. The room we were in was upstairs and completely on the slosh which was fun! The afternoon tea was lovely and there was plenty for all, even offering a vegetarian option. The only minor I would mention and this is more of a suggestion, would be to have lighter desserts. There were sandwiches, cheese and fruit scones and then lots of cake items including muffins, Victoria sponge, chocolate cake, Bakewell cake, pastry swirls, turron, biscuits and a peanut brittle. I would have preferred a syllabub or panna cotta or Eton mess type dessert as i think many of us found it all very filling as there were a lot of carbohydrates. However, the staff were very attentive and the food was delicious. I would very much...
Read moreLovely place to have a pint. HOWEVER... there were two of us and we wanted a pint and a half of a beer that cost £2 per pint. Guess how much a pint and a half cost? Read moreAfternoon tea was awful. Paid £14 for half a dry old pork pie, half a sausage roll, various bite size pieces of cake that were clearly bought from a supermarket, cheesecake was soggy and a strange texture. The sandwiches were ok apart from the cucumber one which hadn’t been refrigerated and was warm! The scones seemed freshly baked but were burnt on the top. 5 of us ordered and most of it went back. We mentioned it to the landlady when we paid and she was really rude and hostile, she basically said we should have said something sooner, offered us a free afternoon tea voucher but it will not be used, the place was unkempt and dirty! Avoid! The White Hart is...
