Had a very disappointing visit today. We arrived around 11.30 with the cafè moderately busy but still lots of available tables yet we were left waiting by the entrance without any of the staff acknowledging us. Once seated we weren't given any menus, just told to look at the specials boards on the wall. We ordered 2 coffees, the special "Hungarian mushroom" soup, freshly baked focaccia and some cake. The coffees were fine. The soup wasn't bad but I couldn't tell you what made it Hungarian and the bread served with it was unappealing. Neither of us felt the homemade focaccia was any good. Considering it cost £4.95 I wouldn't say it was value for money or particularly 'focaccia' like, at least not as good as focaccia I have eaten in the past. The cake I had was tasty and I did very much enjoy it.
Generally I feel this cafe is overpriced and benefits from the fact that there is a steady stream of visitors at the salt Mills. The staff were not particularly attentive and people stood queuing despite there been plenty of free tables the whole time we were there.
I wouldn't return again but instead find a different coffee shop in...
Read moreWe travelled a good distance with friends to visit Salts mill . We enjoyed our lunch in the Opera however we were shown the specials board then told they were sold out. We ordered sandwiches and they were fine. After leaving the restaurant I was approached face on by a young lad with a pay machine in his hand who asked if I had just been in the restaurant. When I replied yes he said’ you’ve not paid your bill’ !! My husband came across and stated he had. The lad went off with no apologies. I was really upset and decided to drop them an email explaining what had happened and suggested they might change their system so this didn’t happen again. Unfortunately I haven’t had the courtesy of a reply and that was two weeks...
Read moreMeal and coffee were decent. I had chicken coronation sandwich. The setting is really special too. Where this place needs attention is the lack of urgency by the entire staff. Picture huge queues, loads of empty tables waiting to be cleared and the entire team acting obliviously and bumbling about without a care. We were entertained by this and the incredulous looks on the faces of everyone in the unnecessary queue that couldn’t believe the scenes. Clearing a table quickly when it is vacated and seating the next group is basic but it took 20-30 minutes to achieve this while we were watching. ...
