The Place Bar Restaurant — Restaurant in Brean

We used the Place last night for the first time in 3 years as family were holidaying in Brean. There were 6 of us in total and we all ordered food. Two of us received our meals 15 minutes before the others despite it all going placed in a single order.

I had a BLT sandwich with a side of crisps. It was edible sums it up. The brown bread was soft but chewy, there were 2 rashers of very cold and salty bacon (cooked in advance), an inch of lettuce to bulk up the sandwich and a slither of tomato. My husband had the cheeseburger which he said was OK. Drinks were reasonably priced for a holiday resort. However, the staff weren't friendly and possessed a basic level of customer service.

The interior was dingy and could do with a makeover. In fact, the best way to describe it is neglected.

Live entertainment was advertised from 9 pm to 11 pm. We left at 10 pm and it still hadn't materialised.

We won't be returning and if on holiday in the area, I'd suggest you drive or catch the bus into Burnham and use one of the eateries there where the quality of food & drinks is far superior with more options and cheaper.

Pre-Covid

My husband and I eat here weekly. There's a good selection of meals on the menu with a gluten/ vegetarian option usually on the specials board. A children's menu is also available. Drinks and food are both reasonably priced and the staff friendly. Dogs are also allowed in this venue. There's a nice sun terrace at the front which is ideal for a drink and to watch the world go by on...

Shocking welcome from the lady on the door on 10th October at 5pm! I called previously and informed them that we have 14 people and 4 dogs coming to eat and drink for the rest of the evening. Obviously we required 3 separate tables, due to Covid rules. I was informed that we couldn't book but they weren't expecting to be busy so it won't be a problem and we could have seating in the dog friendly area inside. We were welcomed by a staff member, obviously having a bad day as her attitude said, she didn't want us there. She told us there's no tables available, as the locals are sitting at the only tables available for dogs inside. They had no dogs! We accepted that the pub gave their locals priority and we took 3 tables outside. We then sat there for 20 minutes whilst 4 bar staff stood at the end of the bar, inside, watching us. We were unable to place an order for drinks as no staff had come to take any order from us. We decided to leave and take our custom elsewhere. I'm glad that The Place is doing so well during the Covid crisis, that they are able to treat customers in this way. We certainly won't...

Currently sat down in this restaurant and have just finished "eating". To begin with my mother had the chicken Tika masala and the Poppadom was wet, greasy and chewy. so I asked the staff members, whilst they were playing on the gambling machine (very unprofessional) for another poppadom. When the new poppadom was brought out it was crispier but still extremely greasy. Then I had the steak and I ordered a medium well, when I began eating it i noticed it was burnt on the outside and uncooked on the inside, for me personally I thought it was Disgusting and inedibleInedible, it tasted like charcoal which gives me the impression the grill hadn't been cleaned, the chips along side it was also dry aswell as the chips on my dads fish and chip meal. My dad went to the toilet and came back with the news that the toilets were filthy and had a dead spider just sitting in the webb. We didn't get asked how our meal was not once, staff weren't welcoming and it felt like they didn't want us to be there and that we were just an inconvenience. Very unhappy with...
