Went to Milk Bun with some friends for dinner a few weeks ago, and sadly, it was a little disappointing. The food itself is pretty good - I expected it would be a bit more exciting, but it was reasonably tasty. However, what really made it a not particularly enjoyable evening was the service.

I’d pre-booked a table about a week before visiting and had stated that we’d need a high chair, as we had our baby with us. It was early-ish on a Saturday evening, so I expected it to be quite busy, so thought it best to book. When we arrived, we’d been put in the front window, which was a bit of a squash with a pushchair, but we went with it. The server was a bit terse and wanted us to order almost as soon as we sat down. This seemed a bit odd, but it became apparent why near the end of the meal.

The food took a very long time to come out - about an hour after we ordered - so by the time we’d almost finished eating, we’d been there an hour and a half. The server came to take our plates and then decided to tell us he’d need the table back in 5 minutes, as he had another party that had booked it, and handed us the bill. We were a bit taken aback at this, as you’d expect someone to inform you at the beginning of the meal that there was a time limit for the table. We finished our drinks and paid up, and he practically pushed us out the door, as the new party were waiting just outside. He was really quite rude overall. To make things worse, there was a service charge that wasn’t highlighted on the menu, which I think is a bit cheeky.

I’d been looking forward to visiting Milk Bun for a while and had expected a much better experience, but I don’t think I’ll be revisiting any time soon. If the food had been a bit nicer, I might have given it a go, but i must admit, I’ve had better elsewhere and wouldn’t want a repeat of the service we received. What a shame!

UPDATE: I had a comment from the Manager at Milk Bun a while back to say get in touch so they could sort something out for us, so I dropped them an email. Reader, they never...

Went here on Friday the 1st of September, we were having a stroll around Clifton and saw Milk Bun! We've ordered from Milk Bun a few times before and have always enjoyed the food we received. We sat outside around 8:30pm or just before as the weather was a nice temperature. The waitress was quick to help and took our order. 2 Burgers and shared fries (The pulled pork fries special they had going for the day) for drinks we only ordered water as we didn't really feel like anything to drink. We were sat waiting for 50mins to nearly an hour for the food. I had to chase the status of the food after waiting 40+mins. They said it would be another 5minutes but unfortunately it was another 10. We decided to move inside as it started to become cold and the waitress asked us if we wanted drinks on the house, we took a look but we weren't really wanting any drinks as we would have ordered some when we initially ordered. A bit frustrated my partner asked for a discount on the bill instead as we were enjoying our time but the fact that we had lack of communication on our food and that we had to move inside and still had not received our food just ruined our time there. Plus others who had arrived after us were already eating their food, so it just seemed like it was forgotten and takeaways additionally seemed to be prioritised observing the handful of drivers that came through during our wait. When the food arrived, it didn't taste as though it was recently made and we've had the same burgers before when ordering and they were much better! It's a shame as we do like Milk bun which is why I've given 3 stars but I think for now on I'll stick to ordering for delivery. We received a discount on the food which was nice but it was just an...

We visited for dinner and had high expectations but sadly these were not met. When arriving for the 5pm dinner service we were greeted by staff sat smoking in the doorway which, don’t get me wrong they’re entitled to have a smoke but it would of been nicer if they didn’t do it right outside the doorway - considering there is a lane running alongside the restaurant. We were the first table in for dinner and our food arrived in a timely manner which we were impressed by however, the food was Luke warm at best. We would have requested this be sent back but we were very hungry and looked past it as we had purposely not eaten much in anticipation for the venue. When my boyfriend had a taste of my burger, the experience was quite different from his because his bun was over toasted and tough. The sides and portions however, did impress us; but for a burger restaurant, that shouldn't be the only thing to impress. Finally, even though the table is reserved for an hour and a half, the staff simply handed us the bill without asking, and I hadn't even finished my drink. We arrived at the restaurant at 5 p.m and the bill was delivered at 5:47! Although not impressed by this it was the iPad which was presented almost straight after at the table asking for us to pay (assuming we were ready) making us feel extremely rushed when I still had not finished. Furthermore, there was already a 10% service charge applied, to which the customer should have the opportunity to determine whether the service was worth a 10% tip. This, along with the feeling of being rushed puts you in an uncomfortable situation. Although some positives it was hard to overlook the...

We went for an early First Table booking. Shortly after we arrived, I noticed that it was getting quite smoky in the restaurant. We had a delicious meal. The burgers were great, even if the chicken burger had a little too much citrus in the mayo. The Bronx loaded fries were fantastic, but needed a little seasoning with salt. We were chatting away, when I asked my partner if she was upset about something, as her eyes were watering and had gone red. We realised that the smoke coming up from the kitchen was quite thick and had made both our eyes watery and irritated. At the end of our meal, we asked if the staff were okay with the amount of smoke in the room, as I’m sure doing a full restaurant service in there would be really tough, not only on the eyes, but on the lungs too. We were told that the restaurant are waiting for the extractor system to be cleaned and thats why it’s smokier than it would be usually. I can only imagine what it must have been like for the folks in the kitchen. It was only when we arrived home that we realised that all our clothes/bags now smell like smoke and fat. Sadly one of our coats is dry clean only, so that’s something we weren’t expecting to have to fork out for. Genuinely delicious food, but I don’t think a restaurant should open if they know they’re awaiting extractor maintenance, as everyone who dined there this evening will stink of fat, not to mention the poor kitchen and floor staff, having to work in an overly smoky environment. We will definitely dine there again, but only once the extraction system has been cleaned and maintained.

Looking forward to another visit to milkbun and for first time in probably 3/4 visits I left unsatisfied, as I’ve not reviewed on here yet I’ll give you my overall based on previous visits but this time the food really dint hit like it has before. I ordered a bronx burger and bronx dirty fries, I’ll start with the fries - big portion that’s for sure but the fries were under done, lacking seasoning and the cheese sauce was thick and with a heavy flour taste without any of the cheese really hitting the taste, absolutely no cheese pull at all! The burger was ok, no crispy edges to the beef felt like it needed a little longer on grill to get that charred crispiness across the patty, the burger fell apart when eating a lot of juice coming out the meat making the bottom bun soaked and now soft, the lack of seasoning in the meat showed again the taste buds were asking for more that’s for sure. We also ordered the chicken strips and again disappointing, crispy strips absolutely not, anaemic and soft light batter, and zero flavour other than the side sauce. surely they would looked at this on the pass and said we can’t serve this? But nope it made its way to table. Overall score for this visit - 5.5/10 But normally milk bun absolutely hits the spot and they have a very high standard of food here and my pervious visits I’ve seen this standard shown and I leave very satisfied so I’m sure this was a one off. But a bad birthday meal that’s for sure.
