Look out for the Compass behind the bar - hundreds of years ago, the ship owners & traders would meet, the Compass would be set showing the direction of the prevailing winds. The wind direction gave ship owners & traders an idea when the (Sailing) 'Ships would land'. If you are standing with the Rooms behind you, Go left & within 100 paces you will be beside some metal tables.....,.. these are called nails, the Ship owners would spread a sample of their cargo on a nail & do a deal with a trader - hence the expression 'Paid on the Nail'. I. Have given 4 stars, not 5, to say Bristol is a wonderful City and has Universities. The Commercial Rooms are Centrally located, inexpensive & you may find it too popular. Final problem is no Parking, I would try the Galleries Carpark, go to the top turn right and you have a short walk. I am including a picture of a Barber Shop that is on the left of the road leading to the Commercial Rooms on your right, but look out for the Nails on your left just before the Commercial Rooms. Enjoy, Simon.

This pub is in a really impressive building I love how so much of the original features have remained like some gas lights there is the main hall area and 2 more smaller dining areas which is nice as they are a bit quieter. I really enjoyed the food the service was fast the person who served me seemed friendly and helpful. I have been passing this place a few times and never realised what it was until I searched online for a wetherspoon and this one came up. The times I had gone past there was no seating outside as the weather had been bad so there was nothing that really stood out to say it was a wetherspoon pub but now there is seating outside they have wetherspoon fencing around the seating which gives it away more that it's a wetherspoon. It's great that they haven't Done anything like a Singh across the front of the building as it's an impressive building but maybe something a bit more to indicate what the place is. This wetherspoon pub really is worth a visit I hope to go back again soon.

I've been here before but did not review on previous visit. A branch in the old part of the City Centre, near to market area. The branch is not overly huge and I struggled to find a table upon arrival. After about five minutes managed to find a table. Ordered the Vegetarian Breakfast and a pint of Titanic Chocolate and Vanilla Stout. Unfortunately the beer did seem to have much life to it, as can be seen in one of the photos. When I ordered two more halves of festival beers, they too were also flat. A bit of a poor show during the national beer festival. I was impressed however with the large number of Beer festival Beers on. Breakfast was standard Wetherspoon quality and was lukewarm upon arrival. Was also missing a fried egg. Breakfast is £5.89 here. Worth a visit if in the area. I'm glad this branch wasn't closed in the end, as certainly a good stop off point in the old city area.

Visited here on a Sunday morning, we arrived at 11:50am and I was keen to get a breakfast. There was 3 customers waiting at the bar, I grabbed a table with my sister and went straight over to order as we knew what we wanted. There were 3 people behind the bar, yet only 1 seemed to be serving. I waited, and the 1 guy that was serving served the 3 other customers, then served 3 more customers who came to the bar before coming to me. I was very annoyed that he didn't pay any attention to who was next and didn't ask. When he finally got to me, I asked for the breakfast and the barman cut in before I could finish my sentence and said "No more breakfasts, it's 12:02. We stop serving at 12." This would have been absolutely fine if I'd only just arrived at the bar, or joined a large queue however I was there for 12 minutes. I ordered a different meal, sat down and it was a 45 minute wait until the food arrived. The food itself was at best mediocre, the best thing you could say about it was it retained heat but had obviously been sitting out for a long time because it was dry and it was not worth the wait.

I also then tried to wet my food with condiments, none of the sauces had had their plastic seals taken off and yet had been put out for use. The top of the salt shaker fell off when I poured the salt on, which I assumed was just another customer but when I tried to put it back on it didn't even fit on the salt.

We left the Commercial Rooms disappointed. The atmosphere was non-existent. Every single table had glasses and plates on and had not been cleared yet there were staff walking around with empty hands. I know it's a Wetherspoons...

So if you are looking for a cheeky place to start your night out off then this is the place most people go. Others go elsewhere I guess. Nice and big with plenty of tables to sit at. Some tables have a couple of chairs while others have bigger tables and more chairs around them. So depending on your party size think about which table you choose. The bar gets busy when everyone is ordering so you might have to put up with strangers rubbing up against you while you wait to get an order in. I'm cool with that as long as they don't try slipping a cheeky digit up there! At least buy me a drink first 👍 Prices are reasonable and you can get a little fuzzy for hardly any money. But saying that I'm a cheap night out & it doesn't take me a lot to get the party started 😉. You can order food too. But I didn't as I wasn't hungry. I waited till the early morning & got myself a MuckyKebab 😁 Toilets are standard . 300 plus yards away if not more. Down and up stairs until you reach them. I'm sure you end up on the other side of town just to either drain the Weasel or drop the kids off at the pool. Easy to find where it is by car & taxi is even easier as the drivers know where it is and you don't have to drive there 👍 Close to other places so once you leave your back somewhere else grinding your body to some serious tunes. No music and very loud. So either speak up while you're there or learn to lip read. I thought someone was arguing with me but soon realised he had a droopy bottom lip and was just breathing heavily which made his mouth move. My bad. All in all not a bad place to start your...

came to Bristol about a couple weeks ago to visit a friend and we went out for his birthday, I don't think I've met ruder door staff in my life. they didn't let my friend in, which i know they have to do in some instances, but they gave us no reason and then when we asked why they said she was too drunk. this was the beginning of the night so we'd all only had one drink so she wasn't drunk, they simply just refused us entry and we tried to explain that she wasn't drunk she has diagnosed conditions that make her speech slower but they wouldn't let us get a word out. the lady then said "can you leave coz you're pissing me off now" whilst we were trying to get our friends who had gone in ahead out. once we were all out we started to leave and they started flashing their torches at us and my friend slipped on the wet cobble stone and both door staff laughed so loud and hard we could hear it from 20ft away on a busy Saturday night. the next morning we spoke to my friends sister and she said she has had similar experiences of door staff being ridiculously rude especially the woman with short hair and glasses who is the main lady we dealt with that day. I 100% understand people just trying to do their jobs and I've worked in pubs and bars before, customers do get annoying and people try their luck when they're too drunk, but my friend wasn't and even if she was that is not the way you should treat people let...
