Me and my partner have been visiting The Knowle for the past eight years and it was our favourite place to eat. After moving away a few years ago we have not been here as often as we would of liked. This evening to celebrate a special occasion we decided to travel to The Knowle. We were so looking forward to it but the whole evening was an absolute shambles. On arriving my partners pint was half full. We then ordered our starter and requested to have some balsamic vinegar with our starter. The waiter gave us a funny look as if this was something weird to order? Then it comes to our main⌠We had ordered steaks with peppercorn sauce. The first time the food was brought out we had been given Stilton sauce instead. The waiter took the sauce back to the kitchen and said they would replace for peppercorn. Meanwhile our food was getting cold at the table. I then had to ask the waiter myself to take our food back to the kitchen to keep warm. Our food came out for the second time and AGAIN we had Stilton sauce. We spoke to the waiter again who insured us it was peppercorn sauce but then took the sauce and tried it with a spoon and had said âOh yes it doesnât taste like peppercorn your rightâ. They then took the sauce back for the second time leaving our steaks on the table getting even colder. Third time the sauce comes out and itâs the same sauce as the first two times!!! At this point I was completely fed up and didnât want the food as it was cold. My partner ate his as he was hungry but realistically he didnât enjoy it, it was just there in front of him and would of gone to waste. The waiter then said he would bring out some chips for me if I wanted and I agreed as I hadnât had anything to eat. After waiting ten minutes and my partner finishing his meal my food still hadnât arrived. We had decided at this point we were going to leave. We had an apology from the manager but was still charged for what was ordered bar the steak I didnât have. I feel utterly disappointed at the lack of customer service and the way we were treated it is also sad to see how much this pub has deteriorated from what it once was. As coming from a family in the hospitality business for the past 54 years this is not how you treat...
Read moreThis pub for a sunday dinner is one of our favourites and have highly recommended it to friends in the past but there is a but today we were very looking forward to our Sunday lunch with family that we don't see as much as we should so we were all excited. Until we arrived at the knowle . Firstly we were all seated we had to ask the bar if we could order some drinks as the pub was empty at this point and numerous staff was just stood around chatting wich we found annoying . Once we've ordered our roasts it was clear it's not up to the Knowles usual standard . I had the pork belly with crackling but instead I got a soggy chewy something. My cauliflower cheese could fit on the back of a 50 pence piece and about 5 green beans and some red cabbage that could be described as minute . And as for gravy there wasn't any worthy of a mention . I will need to take convincing to return . This is hard to write as I've always recommended food there to everyone one something is...

What a lovely place for a quality bite to eat and a natter with a decent pint. There's a small but respectful range of quality ales on rotation and a commendable range of gin if that's your poison of choice.
The food menu offers a simple choice of fayre and it's good quality - a falafel burger was demolished without interruption by my wife as was my fish and chips: well cooked chips and a delightfully thick piece of cod, complimented with a garnish of home made tartare sauce and mashed mushy peas, which were brilliant.
I've previously reviewed the pub before, commentating on its prices, which are higher than I'd like. Being objective, the prices aren't unreasonable and in line with prices from other quality gastropubs in the locality.
I'm always one to identify high prices in return for mediocre food and it would be for from fair to place The Knowle in this bracket.
(Oh - the staff are lovely too, very friendly and the...
