We were really pleased to have chosen this family-run restaurant for a pre-show meal. It was a great experience and really authentic. It was quiet when we were there, as it was a very early booking (5.30pm) but I can imagine what a fun evening you could have here with a crowd of you, enjoying the very sociable way of eating, around the traditional Ethiopian taba and the fun of the coffee ceremony which creates its own magic. The food was healthy, fresh and really delicious - we had a mixed pulse and meat sharing dish for 4 with generous amounts of melt-in-the-mouth injera straight from the griddle. We had ample food - even four very hungry adults couldn’t quite finish it. One vegan member of our party was really happy with her choice too. Service was charming, warm and friendly. Would DEFINITELY return and if you visit, do try the excellent fruit-packed smoothies. The coffee ceremony is a must. If only we had had time to linger there in the mysterious haze and spiced coffee aromas, into the late evening…and I might have stayed on to try the breakfast. Really family friendly too and...
Read moreThe food here was completely sensational - and the service warm and authentic. We felt really looked after and that we were eating home cooking. Plus the mango drink was natural and not too sweet. We loved the homely decor - the paintings show how family and children are at the centre of life in Ethiopia/Eritrea and how sharing food signifies community - sadly missing from much of fragmented British life these days with folk on their phones and the young separated culturally from adults. But firmly in the spirit of Zara and those running it. Excellent place - far better than several Google pumped restaurants that we have tried in...
Read moreAbsolutely incredible food!
I Had the sharing dish for 2 with my partner for lunch today and left very full and happy. We spotted this place has recently opened, and as we both love Ethopian and Eritrean food thought we'd give it a try. This turned out to be a good choice as it was the best we've both ever had I'm Bristol, Europe and London.
The flavours were really bold and delicious, with the food all being very fresh (not too oily) and cooked well. The portions were generous and it was nice to have so many different portions of different dishes to try.
Seriously, impressed with the food and also the customer service too. Very friendly and welcoming in here :) cannot wait to come back already. Straight up on my list of favourite restaurants to eat at in Bristol. See...
